How to cut ceiling plinths in corners. Ceiling plinth: how to make the corner beautiful and even

High-quality repairs require careful and careful attention to detail. When finishing work with the ceiling, you need to decorate it well - ceiling skirting boards are used for this. As a rule, installing the planks does not cause any particular difficulties; you will have to tinker with the corners. Let's take a closer look at how to cut ceiling plinth in the corners, let's talk about in different ways, let's give useful recommendations on the topic.

Ceiling plinths from any material can be cut using one of the methods described below. They are suitable for all except plastic ones: these are designed using ready-made corners.

For ceiling plinths, the following tools may be useful, depending on the chosen method of work:

  • Saw on wood. Useful for working with wooden ceiling plinths.
  • Metal cloth. Suitable for other types of skirting boards (foam, plastic, etc.).
  • Miter box. The tool is a groove that has the shape of an inverted U, where lines for cutting are drawn at angles of 45° and 90°.
  • Electric miter saw. Can be used instead of a miter box, helps achieve high precision slices.
  • Jigsaw. Easy to operate, it can be used to cut corners efficiently and correctly without burrs.
  • Stationery or construction knife. Suitable for foam baseboards, it is important that it has an excellent cutting blade, and therefore must be well sharpened.

How to make an even angle: methods

The most difficult thing is to cut a corner so as to get a perfectly flat one: the surface of the materials used is not easy to cut, in addition, you need to maintain a good fit, preferably without huge gaps. How to make a corner on a ceiling plinth? You can use several methods: with a miter box, without a miter box, using decorative corners, as well as in an alternative way.

Cutting the corners of ceiling plinths without a miter box

How to properly cut ceiling plinth without a miter box? To work, you will need a well-sharpened pencil, a small piece of plinth, a stationery knife (for polystyrene or polyurethane) or a metal saw (for other materials), and a ruler.

You need to attach the baseboard to the corner and draw a line with a pencil along the outer edge, then attach it to the other side of the corner and also mark it. As a result, you will get a cross on the ceiling, the center of which will mark the place where the ceiling plinth strips should meet. Place a piece of baseboard where you will glue it. Leaning the end against the wall, transfer the desired mark to it. This way you can cut the corners of the ceiling plinth without a miter box.

Making corners using a miter box

If the walls and corners of the room are smooth, you can use a miter box for work. To properly cut a corner, you should place a part inside the miter box in which a person will make a cut, then insert a saw into the guides. This will keep the piece in place so it can be cut at the desired angle. For high-quality cutting of the plinth, it must simultaneously adhere to both surfaces, so it should be pressed against the wall of the miter box. The ceiling plinth is pressed against the side that is closest to you.

Using a miter box, you will need to cut a 45 degree angle. First you need to decide how to position the plinth in the miter box. To avoid confusion and cut correctly, place the right strip on the right and the left on the left.

Carry out the work according to the following instructions:

Attach it to the ceiling and check the geometry. If it is not even enough, you can correct it a little with a knife, and in case of minor defects and wide gaps, you can use putty.

How to cut skirting boards using decorative corners

With their help you can easily and quickly obtain the desired angles in skirting boards made of polystyrene or polyurethane. Install them on the ceiling, and then glue the strips tightly to them. It's easy to trim them using a utility knife.

How to make corners of a ceiling plinth without tools

  1. Make the necessary marks on the baseboards.
  2. Using a ruler, align the edge of the baseboard with the mark. If you just cut along the line, the parts in the corner will still not fit, as it will get in the way inner part. You can trim it later by taking measurements on the ceiling.
  3. You can place the piece that needs to be cut on the table, with the part that will be located on the ceiling, and cut at an angle of 45 degrees. It will require some adjustment, but not much.
  4. Repeat points 2 and 3 for the second plank, doing outside corner OK.

In this way, you can make a ceiling plinth without special tools, using improvised means.

Using fillets

You don’t have to make the fillets yourself, but immediately purchase those that are initially prepared for joining. This is how polystyrene foam fillets are produced, which do not need to be adjusted to each other.

The baguette that will be fixed on the left must have a right cut, and the right baguette must have a left cut. When creating an internal corner, make sure that the lower section rises above the upper; for the external corner, everything should be the other way around.

Attach the baguettes to each other, if necessary, make cuts at the joints of the base. If everything is in order, the skirting boards can be fixed with glue or screwed to the walls with further sealing of the seams.

How to join skirting boards in corners

When a certain part of the plinth is glued and until the corner remains short distance In order not to make a mistake with the length, you need to leave a margin. To begin with, you can cut a piece that will be 10-15 cm longer. Then cut the corner in a convenient way, try it on a dry surface, place the bar on the ceiling and select the place to which it needs to be shortened. Trimming is performed at an angle of 90°.

Next, you need to properly join the corners. Done ceiling moldings They are attached at an angle of 38-45°, so the classic 45° angle is not always suitable at the joints. IN different cases the cut edges do not meet and leave gaps. For this reason, after the initial trimming of the corners, it is necessary to carry out a “dry” and most accurate joining of the baguettes directly to the ceiling. You will especially have to tinker with wooden and plastic materials.

Having completed the rough joining of the skirting boards, glue or screw the fillets to the walls and ceiling, then, if necessary, use putty and finally seal the seams.

Important points

Let's look at how to correctly cut the corners of ceiling plinths and get an excellent result the first time. Follow some useful tips:

  • Before fastening, both parts must be adjusted to each other. Attach both halves to each other. The wall surface must be dry. If you find any defects, you can easily smooth them out with a knife.
  • Several trims may be required. Don't be discouraged if it takes a long time and you have to make several trims, especially if this is your first time doing the job.
  • Correctly determine the length of the planks in the corners. For an internal corner, the length of the strip should be adjusted exactly from corner to corner; for an external corner, the measurement is taken from the internal point in the direction of the room.
  • If the corners generally match perfectly, but there are small gaps in the middle, they can be sealed with putty.

How to glue ceiling plinth

Start working from the corners of the room, as they are easier to work with, then move on to other parts of the room. Seal the corners in such a way that, if possible, no gaps are formed or, if unavoidable, defects are minor. For plastic skirting boards, finishing putty is used.

Water or soil is applied to the fastening areas. After the putty mixture has dried, all cracks must be sealed - used for sealing various sealants(professional builders recommend choosing acrylic-based products). In general, one package is required per room. Installation using sealant is carried out in the same way as when using putty.

How to cut a profile tube at an angle

When installing piping, it is often necessary to reduce the piping below a certain slope.

Precision plays important role in this task. There are several simple ways cut the tube at an angle.

Incorrect cutting of pipes makes it impossible to install the structure of the originally designed shape. For example, if you intend to rotate the system 45 degrees, the hose must be cut at 45 degrees.

To complete the task you will need marking tools and a grinder (you can replace it with metal wire).

Marking a corner using a piece of paper

Posting paper is one of the easiest ways to complete a task.

How to correctly make a ceiling corner by knitting using a chair and improvised means

Required square sheet. Precise diagonal fold. The pipe cutting tutorial should be wrapped around the product with the long side running parallel to the product section.

On small sides it is shaped like 45 degrees.

A cutting line is left on a piece of paper with a pencil or marker.

This method is great for long large pipes with a cut in the center of the product.

Method of marking with a water container instead of a template

This marking method is suitable for small diameter pipes that are designed to be cut at a specific angle close to the edge.

First you need to prepare the tank for deep water. Indicates the expected slope of the slope. You should now carefully load the end of the product into the liquid, tilt it to the mark and pull it out.

As a result of such actions, a clear line of contact with water is displayed on it; it should be emphasized. Pipe cutting is at an angle. This method is best suited for jobs that require multiple markings.

Using a computer program

To implement this cutting line marking method, you need a computer with special programs. First, you need to draw a drawing that shows the cross-sectional dimensions of the product and is also designed as a cross-section.

You need to get a virtual template.

Print it on your printer. And then you need to understand that larger diameter pipes, the more sheets you will need to print. Then you need to accurately cut the drawing parts on all sides and glue, it is best to apply this office box.

The template on the pipes should continue to be used and the label should be used.

This method of solving the problem is very accurate. You can get all the software you need online, download it, and use it for free. There you can also find a sample for cutting the tube at an angle. All that remains is to print it and turn it off. To complete the label, the curve is simply hung around the pipe.

How to cut a profile tube at an angle

The profile of a profile tube differs from the profile of a round one. Doing it manually can cause significant error.

The best way to solve the problem is to create a cutting template from the same profile, but with a larger diameter.

Take a small part of the profile tube.

On it, using projutor, mark it as 45 degrees. Now with the help grinding machine the piece of workpiece must be cut along the marked line. The cutting edges must be routed to correct defects. The remaining product remains only in the template for cutting the tube at an angle.

Then you need to mark the cut line of the larger profile. And already a tube is cut on it.

How to cut ceiling plinth

At first glance, it seems that the installation procedure for a baguette is not particularly difficult.

Indeed, this is true if you cut the cornice for the ceiling correctly. This is easy and simple to do using a device such as a miter box. But if the tool is not at hand, do not despair. There are techniques that allow you to perfectly cope with the task without it. We will teach you how to cut ceiling plinths without a miter box.

In most houses and apartments, a right angle is decorated with a ceiling plinth, so we will cut the baguette into 2 sectors of 45 degrees.

And let's start with the method, which consists of creating markings on the wall:

  1. Let's attach the product to the corner in place of the fastener.
  2. Along its edge we draw a line on the surface, which will act as a base for the mounting level.
  3. Let's do the same on the other side, attaching the baguette to the connecting wall.
  4. As a result, two lines are formed that intersect at one point.

Transfer it to the baguette, since this point is the top cutting point.

  5. Next, you should again attach the plinth to the ceiling to draw lines between the edges of the cornice to indicate the cutting line.
  6. Place it against the corner of the room to trim.
  7. To cut the ceiling plinth, use a knife or hacksaw, depending on the material from which it is made.

In addition, there are enough interesting way cutting a baguette - draw a miter box on paper.

Depict this device on paper: draw two lines that should be parallel to each other, mark the angles, maintaining their degrees, for which you can use a protractor. In this case, it is necessary to cut the baseboard in the same way as when using a real miter box.

The product must be located parallel to one of the lines. Trim the corner. But this technique may not give an ideal result, since we will be cutting the product at an angle of 45 degrees, but the corners in our houses, as a rule, are crooked, and in the end we get a noticeable gap.

This method of cutting ceiling plinth consists of creating a special shape.

To do this you will need 3 planks or pieces of thick plywood. Make cuts in the sides of the product at an angle of 45 degrees using a protractor. This way, you can trim the baguette without miter box.

Another simple method lies in paper manipulation. Bend the sheet at the desired angle. Then it needs to be placed on a block and cut along the formed line, which should be previously drawn.

Such a block will serve as a kind of template: a ceiling plinth is placed under it in the position in which it will be attached, and the corners are cut off, holding the knife strictly vertically.

A rather expensive way to create the corners of a ceiling plinth without a miter box is to use special additional inserts.

They are divided according to their purpose: for internal and external corners, there are also connecting inserts.

If you have to work with non-standard corners, for example, those that have several intersecting edges, or rounded ones, you will not need a miter box.

How to properly cut corners of ceiling plinths

After all, the angle is not 90°. In this case, you should take a baguette and, using a breadboard or stationery knife, cut it “by eye” at 45 degrees. Then the joined part must be adjusted to the desired angle, constantly trying on the structure in weight at the installation site. There may be quite a lot of such fittings, so get ready. But if you want you can achieve good result, even if the corners in the room are non-standard.

Thus, the absence of a miter box when installing ceiling plinths is not a death sentence.

On the contrary, this is an excellent opportunity to learn several new techniques that will help you cut your baguette just as well. And perhaps you will like some of them even more!

Cutting ceiling plinths: how the professionals do it

If you need to get an angle of 45 degrees, what should you do in this case? For this, there is a protractor, known to everyone since school, and with it you can measure any angle.

Well, if there is no protractor nearby, then there is no urgent need to search for it, you can do without it.

There are many different techniques or methods for this, here is the simplest and most effective:

An angle of 45 degrees can be obtained using a regular sheet of paper; you can use a regular notebook or landscape sheet.

In extreme cases, you can get by with a newspaper.

Look carefully at the drawing.

In order to obtain the desired angle, we first make a template from paper, and with its help we easily measure the required value.

All that remains is to attach the paper blank to the part to be cut and draw a line with a pencil.

As you can see, such a simple technique can easily help out in your work if the necessary tools are not available.

Surely each of us has at least once faced the question: how to cut the corner of a ceiling plinth? Well, or floor, depending on the situation. Of course, there are ready-made connectors on sale, but it is not always possible to select one for each specific type of molding.

And so you have to somehow get out of it, trim it by eye, and then correct it several times. But cutting the molding correctly the first time is not so difficult. In this article we will tell you how to cut down a ceiling plinth, as well as a floor plinth. One - with the help special tool, and the other without it.

We cut the corner of the ceiling plinth using a miter box

As written above, trimming a corner can be done either with the help of a special tool - a miter box, or without it. The set of other items that you will need is the same in both cases: a hacksaw, a cardboard cutter, a protractor and a pencil, a stepladder.

Which miter box is better to buy for pruning?

This article will describe how to work with the simplest miter box, such as the one on the left side of the photo. It is possible to cut the plinth at an angle of 45 and 90 degrees - this is the required minimum. And on the right side of the photo is a rotating miter box. Its device is more complex, includes a built-in hacksaw and allows you to cut material at different angles. Of course, this option is easier to use and provides more cutting options.

However, if you are not the owner of a private house where you periodically have to do carpentry, then it would be better to get by with the most simple option. For comparison, a regular miter box for a ceiling plinth costs 100-350 rubles, and after the renovation is complete, you can throw it on the balcony or throw it out completely. A rotary one can cost from one and a half thousand, plus it then needs to be stored somewhere in proper conditions.

How and what to cut plastic skirting board: regular and rotary miter box

There is another way to cut down a ceiling plinth. Video on how to cut a baguette with a miter saw. In addition, you will find several useful tips and for cutting on an ordinary miter box.

Please note:Before making the first cuts, you need to carefully measure the baseboards. This way you will avoid unnecessary expenses.

Starting trimming: inner corner

We take the ceiling molding, which will be located on the left, and place it in the corner so that its end is pressed tightly against the opposite wall and, if necessary, adjust the length of the segment. We mark in any way the side that looks down.

Now let's go to the miter box: the ceiling molding is placed in the device on the right, with the bottom side closer to you. We place the hacksaw from right to left. Now you can cut the corner. In the diagram this is the left side of the figure. We also trim the right molding.

How to cut a corner of a ceiling plinth: positioning the baguette in a miter box

Trimming the outer corner of the ceiling molding

Here we proceed according to the same plan as when trimming the internal corner: apply it to the wall - check the length matches - mark the apex point of the wall corner on the lower edge of the baguette - go to the miter box.

To trim the outer corner, the ceiling moldings are placed in the device in the same way as for the inner corner. We only make corrections to the point of the apex of the corner, which we set on the baguette. It should coincide: with the leftmost slot for the left ceiling plinth, and for the right, respectively, with the rightmost one.

How to cut the corner of a ceiling plinth: the correct position of the baguette

Please note:in the article we describe each stage, starting from the left side of the wall. However, in reality this of great importance does not have. You can start work from any side.

Trimming the corner of a ceiling molding that has a large pattern

Sometimes the pattern on the surface of the border is very large, and it falls right on the joints in the corners. In this case, we have to puzzle over how to cut out the corner of the ceiling plinth and combine the sides without disturbing its overall composition. In fact, there is nothing complicated here:

  • We cut out an area with a pattern + 5 cm on each side from the ceiling molding.
  • Divide the resulting segment in half.
  • Now we do the marking and trimming as described above.

If there are minor flaws in the connection, we mask them by sealing them with putty, after installing the baguette on the wall and the glue has dried.

How to join the corners of a ceiling plinth if it is wide and has a large pattern

Making pruning without a miter box

If you do not have the opportunity to get a miter box, or the angle of the wall is much more or less than 90 degrees, then you will have to do a little drawing. This matter will require maximum concentration from you, but rest assured, you can handle it.

Forming and cutting corners

For the outer corner, we apply ceiling borders one by one to each side and draw a line along them onto the ceiling and walls. In this way, you can even join three skirting boards at once, as in the photo. As a result, we will get several intersection points, as in the photo below. Next, we transfer these points to the moldings themselves and draw lines from top to bottom. Thanks to these lines, you will understand how to properly cut the ceiling plinth.

Please note:trimming and installation of ceiling plinths must begin before fine finishing walls and ceiling. This way we can safely make the necessary marks on the walls and ceiling without fear of ruining the coating.

How to properly cut a ceiling plinth for an external corner

To trim the inner corner, we will also have to “draw”. As in the previous case, we apply plinths and draw lines along them, looking for intersection points. We place them on the ceiling moldings themselves and draw trim lines. In the figure we look at the red lines, the black ones are given so that the location of the joints of the walls and ceiling is clear.

How to cut a ceiling plinth in an inner corner

How to cut ceiling plinth. Video about how you can cut out the corners of a plinth using a construction angle and a piece of paper.

The final touch before gluing the baseboard

Now we just have to check how accurately the trimming is done. To do this, we take the left and right parts of the ceiling plinth in our hands, and then join them in the corner. If there are no gaps, you can start gluing; if there are defects, we trim using a hacksaw or a cardboard knife. The check is performed in the same way for both external and internal corners.

Please note:Top-bottom marks on moldings are best done using insulating tape. It can be easily removed after trimming, whereas marks from a pencil or marker will have to be masked. This is especially important if the baseboard is not intended to be painted in the future.

We join the corner elements of the ceiling plinth and check the quality of cutting

Trimming floor plinths with and without a miter box

We prepare the same set of tools as for working with ceiling plinths, but with minor changes: we add a small ruler, and we will not need a cardboard knife. As for the type of miter box, the selection criteria remain the same.

Forming an internal and external corner using a miter box

To trim the inside corner, we need to measure and trim the left molding to the desired length, and then mark its bottom edge. Now we place the floor plinth in the miter box: turn the bottom edge towards you and press it against the side of the miter box closest to you. The hacksaw blade should move from right to left while cutting. We also trim the right plinth, only the placement in the miter box and the direction of the hacksaw are mirrored to the left.

How to fit a wooden or polyurethane plinth to an outer corner

Trimming the outer corner is done in a similar way, only on the lower edge of the molding we mark the place that falls on the corner of the wall. We place the plinth in the miter box so that the point coincides with the leftmost or rightmost slot in the device on the wall that is closest to you. To cut on floor plinth place for a socket box, saw the strip at a right angle, along the central slot. This completes the work. Now you know how to trim the baseboard in the corner.

The diagram shows how to use a miter box to cut floor skirting boards

How to trim without a miter box?

  • We take the right and left plinths alternately, place each of them tightly in the corner, and place points on the wall as shown in the figure.
  • Let's take it right side, apply it to the wall, and from point “2” draw a line perpendicular to the wall, put point “3” on the molding.
  • We attach left side, and we also place point “3” on it.
  • We draw borders along the floor along their lower edge, marking the place where the lines intersect. We mark the point on both moldings.

Now you need to draw lines along the baseboards from mark “4” to “3”. We do the trimming so that on one side the hacksaw blade goes along the “3-4” line, and on the other side along the opposite edge of the board. In the photo this edge is marked with a green dot.

And now about how to cut plinths in external corners. Draw corner edge lines on inside baguettes Next, we draw the underside of the baseboards along the floor. We transfer the intersection point to the plinth, and then using right angle rulers - on the opposite edge of the board. This is how we get the trim lines.

How to connect internal corner and adjust the elements

Ceiling plinth is used to hide irregularities at the boundary between the wall and the ceiling, giving the interior aesthetic completeness.

How to make a corner of a ceiling plinth without a miter box and with its help the first time is a pressing problem, which this article will be devoted to.

What is a ceiling plinth?

Ceiling plinth or stucco molding can be made and polystyrene foam, polyvinyl chloride or polyurethane are also used. The scientific correct name for ceiling plinth is fillet.

Polyurethane skirting boards are the highest quality, moisture-resistant, durable and elastic.

Disadvantage polyurethane skirting boards is dependent on sharp changes temperature. This leads to cracking of the plinth when it is placed, for example, over gas stove. After cutting such skirting boards, residual deformations may accumulate in them, which can lead to bending of the skirting board or corner.

Fillers made of polystyrene or expanded polystyrene have almost all the advantages of polyurethane. However, they easily break under mechanical stress.

The cheapest are polyvinyl chloride (PVC) skirting boards. The disadvantages of these skirting boards are the inability to remove dents and electrostaticity.

Galtel happens different shapes, length and width, relief and without relief. Usually glued to the junction of the wall and ceiling.

Advice! Do not use a wide ceiling plinth on low walls and, conversely, do not glue a narrow ceiling plinth on high walls. For walls 2.75 m high, a 45 mm wide ceiling plinth is often used.

For fillets, fittings are sold in the form of corners made of the same material as the fillet. Corners are external and internal. They are glued in the corners of the room into which the baseboard is inserted.

If you refuse to use corners and decide to join two adjacent fillets right at the corner, the greatest difficulty will be the task of how to correctly make the corners of the ceiling plinth.

Preparing ceiling plinths for gluing in the corners of the room

In order to avoid gaps in the corners of the walls, let's consider how to make a corner of the ceiling plinth using the following tool:

  • Miter box
  • Metal saw
  • Sharp knife

A miter box is a tray with slots at a certain angle. To cut plastic skirting boards, it is enough to use a miter box with angles of 45 and 90 degrees.

How to cut the inner corners of a ceiling plinth?

Procedure:

  1. The fillet is applied to the gluing site and measurements are taken.
  2. The plinth is laid top part, which will stick to the ceiling, to the bottom of the tray so that the lower part is pressed against the wall of the miter box.
  3. The plinth is cut with a metal saw or sharp knife without pressing at a 45-degree angle along the tray slot, as shown in the figure below. If you apply excessive force when cutting, chips may occur on the baseboard.
  4. Similarly, the adjacent baseboard is cut along another 45-degree slot.
  5. Apply two plinths to the gluing site and, if necessary, eliminate small gaps by adjusting the cut with a sharp knife.

To quickly learn how to cut a corner of a ceiling plinth, you need to practice on small pieces of it.

How to cut the outer corners of a ceiling plinth? It is necessary to place the plinth on the bottom of the tray with the side that will be glued to another room, in the same way as for cutting an internal corner.

To cut the outside corners on the fillets, you need to use other 45 degree slots, as shown in the picture above.

Advice! Often the task arises of cutting the outer corner on one side of the fillet, and the inner corner on the other side. Before cutting the outer corner of the ceiling molding, cut the more complex inner corner first. Otherwise, due to a shortened, damaged baseboard, a discrepancy may occur in one of the corners.

Actions in the absence of a miter box

If it is not possible to use a miter box, and you do not know how to cut the corner of a ceiling plinth without a miter box, then you can use the following methods:

  • mark on the wall
  • draw a miter box

Markings on the wall

Using markings on the wall you can get a good result.

The procedure is as follows:

  1. Cut the baseboard at a 90 degree angle. Place it on the corner as it will stick. Draw a line on the ceiling.

  1. We also mark the second fillet on the other side of the corner at the junction with the corner.

  1. We have markings on the ceiling in the form of two crossed lines. We transfer the intersection point alternately to 2 ceiling plinths.

  1. Leaning it against the corner, draw a line from the transferred point to the other edge of the plinth. The drawn line is the cutting line.

We apply it to the corner of the room and adjust the angle of the plinth by cutting with a knife.

Drawing a miter box

The miter box can be drawn on a piece of paper, board or cardboard. To do this, you need to draw two parallel lines and set aside the necessary angles with the desired degree. Angles can be laid out using a protractor.

To cut the plinth at an angle, we use a technique similar to cutting with a miter box. Namely, we set the plinth parallel to one of the lines and cut it at an angle.

Very often people face uneven walls in the apartment. If you cut adjacent baseboards at an angle of 45 degrees, then due to the curvature of the walls you will get a large gap. The evenness of the corners in the room can be checked using a corner.

How to make the corners of the ceiling plinth when the corner of the room is not 90 degrees? In this case, the miter box is not useful, because you need to determine and change the degree of cutting angle. That is why it is convenient to use a drawn miter box. How to properly cut a corner on a ceiling plinth - video instructions are in this article.

The procedure for installing fillets on ceilings seems quite easy, but requires specific techniques to successfully complete the repair. Often we cut corners completely incorrectly, which leads to a reduction in its service life and low quality repair work. Correct joining, evenly fixed edges are quite achievable results if you use the recommendations of experienced specialists.

Types of finishing products

This material is intended for decorative finishing ceiling area, visually separating it from the walls and covering the joints of diverse finishing elements. Almost any option decorative design, interior design involves the use of such details. Otherwise, the room will look unfinished.

To secure this part, fillets are used, which are attached to the ceiling using glue.

But a problem arises - how to properly trim the ends of the fillets so that they meet each other successfully. There are rooms with a non-standard configuration, where ingenuity is required for the normal joining of material. How to cut ceiling plinths in corners? There are different options cutting and joining - with or without tools.

The choice of mounting option depends on the type of product:

  • PVC is the cheapest, but also the most brittle and prone to defects, but it is easy to use and can be cut with a knife.
  • Expanded polystyrene is also inexpensive, fragile, and requires easy cutting. Another option is slightly more expensive - made from extruded polystyrene foam, it is more difficult to cut, but it crumbles less.
  • Polyurethane is the most expensive and moisture-resistant, durable and elastic. It is more difficult to work with; it deforms at high temperatures.
  • Wooden is a dense and heavy material that can only be cut with a hacksaw.

Installation of finishing: features

Many owners of houses and apartments are often in the midst of renovation work and are puzzled by the question of how to properly cut the ceiling plinth in the corners. The problem is that it is not technically possible to make a cut at an angle of 45 degrees. To perform such manipulations, it is important correct docking at the boundaries of the outer and inner corners of the canvas, which is quite problematic.

Specifics ceiling version- not only in the vertical position of the canvas.

The mount is placed at the base at an angle of 38 to 45 degrees. The difficulty lies in making a 45 degree cut. It is difficult to connect the cut edges from the inside, gaps appear between them, and aesthetics are disrupted.

For the most accurate cutting, a special corner element is used, which is inserted into the edge of the plinth - it will help hide errors when cutting. This element will emphasize the corners in the room; the choice of such a detail must be approached responsibly.

Angle cutting

How to cut ceiling plinths in corners? The secret to a quality cut is making cuts on both the outside and the inside. The inside cut matters if we are making an outside corner.

Usually used professional equipment- miter saws or electric hammer drills for industrial use. But home renovation proponents can make do ordinary tools. The main requirement is that upon completion of the work, the result should be a clearly visible texture for the cornice, reflected on its front or back side.

Corner cutting technology

So, at what angle should you cut the ceiling plinth and where do you start forming the angle using home remedies?

First, you need to measure the angle that is between the walls - for this you can take pieces of foam plastic from equipment. Typically the angle is 90 degrees - strictly perpendicular. In this case, you need to cut the edges of the product at an angle of 45 degrees.

Similar actions are performed with the second segment.

In case of unevenness and mismatched joints in the gap between the ceiling and walls, you need to divide the radius of the corner in two. However, do not confuse the details. The baguette for the left side is cut on the right, and the one on the right is cut vice versa.

Before cutting ceiling plinths in the corners, form a corner inside the material in the upper space - this solution is based on the fact that the lower side protrudes above the upper. When performing an external corner, the procedure is performed in reverse. The very texture of polystyrene foam materials helps to smoothly and accurately adjust parts. If wooden or plastic elements for a baguette, you will have to work with them more carefully.

Miter box cutting method

The most popular mounting option is using household tools. The miter box is a well-known carpenter's assistant, helping to make cuts at the desired angle. This is usually a tray, wooden or plastic, with vertical slots for the blade at 45 and 90 degree angles. How to cut the corners of a ceiling plinth with a miter box?

First, you should attach the material to the ceiling and install its strip in the miter box.

In this case, the tool must coincide with the position of the product. Holding the plinth with your left hand, select the position for the cutting tool (hacksaw) at an angle of 45 degrees. They cut the material without unnecessary pressure. After this, cut the counter strip and install it to the far wall of the wort.

Holding work material right hand, select the position of the hacksaw at 45 degrees and cut.

Cutting without tools

How to cut the corner of a ceiling plinth without a miter box? It is possible to perform calculations and cuts manually.

It is enough to make a good marking on the ceiling, then evenly cut off the desired angle. A significant disadvantage of this option is the inconvenience of having to hold all the strips with your hands during the measurement process. In general, this method helps to make the necessary measurements just as well.

By attaching the product to the place where it will be mounted, you can immediately take into account all the errors on the walls.

First, two pieces are cut at an angle of 90 degrees. Then they apply one of the planks, resting it perpendicularly against the wall. Draw a line along the ceiling, outlining the desired contour. Then remove the bar and apply a second one for counter marking. The intersection of the lines will be the cutting point. Then the place for the future cut is marked on the slats.

Experienced carpenters, joiners and builders know best how to cut ceiling plinths in corners. Most people advise making cuts from the side and trying the planks to the ceiling; if necessary, cut in the direction where the part meets the surface.

Having made a rough joining, screw the finished fillets to the wall. The seams are sealed - installation of the plinth is completed.

Ceiling plinth is used to hide irregularities that form at the border between the wall and the ceiling in order to give the interior aesthetic completeness.

How to glue a ceiling plinth, how to cut it using a miter box or in the absence of a device - such questions are asked by many beginners who prefer to do their own renovations in the apartment. This article is devoted to these issues.

Materials for skirting boards

Before cutting the ceiling plinth, it is worth getting acquainted with the materials for their manufacture, which differ in the density of the components used. This also determines the method of cutting elements.

Features of materials for ceiling plinths are presented in the table:

Skirting material Advantages Flaws

  • Fade resistant and high strength.
  • Flexibility.
  • Moisture resistance
  • Different sizes and patterns, which allows you to choose for any interior.
  • Can be painted.
  • Heavy weight.
  • Relatively high price.

  • Light weight.
  • Low cost.
  • Soft edges.
  • Varied design.
  • Easy to cut and install.
  • Fragile. Not for use on curved surfaces.
  • The grainy structure of the material and uneven edges require additional processing– trimming, coloring.

  • Strength.
  • Smoothness.
  • Easy to install.
  • Low cost.
  • Large selection of sizes and designs.

Advice: When purchasing a polystyrene ceiling molding, you should give preference to denser materials made by extrusion.

  • Abundance of colors.
  • Low cost.
  • Resistance to moisture.
  • Ease of use.
  • Cannot be repainted.
  • Easily cracks.
  • The corners of the baguette are not rigid when joining; it is necessary to use additional adhesive.

  • Ecological cleanliness.
  • Elite material. Serves for finishing rooms stylized as antique (see).
  • Hygroscopicity, which can lead to changes in the size and geometry of products due to moisture absorption.
  • Expensive.
  • It may rot.
  • Lit.
  • Difficult to adjust to the correct size.

Tip: When cutting any of these materials, you should use a fine-tooth hacksaw. Otherwise, you may end up with an uneven end of the part. The large tooth of the tool will begin to bite the material.

Before installing a baguette on the ceiling with your own hands, you need to determine how to cut it. The main difficulty is maintaining the required joining angle of the elements. Only in this case can a butt seam be obtained without a visible gap.

Tip: If gaps form after installing baguettes, they need to be sealed special glue, silicone or white sealant.

Tools for cutting skirting boards

A high-quality and correctly selected tool will allow you to perfectly join the plinth at all angles. For cutting baguette for the ceiling, use various instruments, which have their own characteristics of use.

These could be:

  • Miter box with hacksaw.

This is a special box with several holes. When performing the operation, a workpiece is inserted into the device, and then the baguette is cut with a hacksaw. The work is quite simple, but the edge of the part turns out to be quite rough, sometimes the product, especially made of foam, even deteriorates from the impact of an ordinary hacksaw.

Tip: After cutting plastic or wooden baguettes in a miter box, the cut areas should be treated with sandpaper or a file.

  • Electric miter saws.

With this tool, the cut is of the highest quality. When cutting, the electric tool is lowered with the blade onto the baguette and the desired result is obtained.

  • Jigsaw.

This tool is very convenient for cutting plinths made of wood, as seen in the photo, plastic and other products at an angle. The peculiarity of cutting is the precise application of markings on the workpiece, and then the smooth lowering of the working saw onto the plinth.

An electric jigsaw makes cuts in different directions, at the desired angle. The advantage of the tool is the efficiency and accuracy of the work.

  • Construction sharp knife.

This tool makes it easy to cut foam products. After preliminary marking of the part, the plinth is carefully cut with a knife at the desired angle.

Despite the simplicity of cutting, in order not to spoil the brand new plinth, it is better to use scraps of material and determine the technology for performing the process until the desired result is obtained.

  • To take correct measurements, the plank is measured between two corners. In this case, for internal corners, the length is measured from the elements. And the distance from the external corners is measured from a point that is distant from the internal one.
  • When installing foam baseboards at the junction between the wall and suspended ceiling, glue is applied to the part of the product in contact with the surface.
  • The final fixation of the plinth is carried out after adjusting the angle of the adjacent plank to it.
  • If there is a right angle at the wall, ceiling and floor, it is easier to adjust the planks at the bottom, laying out the parts on the floor or on a prepared table.
  • Small cracks remaining in the corners are filled with putty.
  • Particular attention should be paid to the installation of ceiling plinths made of rare wood. IN in this case, puttying the gaps will most likely not give the expected result. A bright spot will appear against the texture background.
  • High-quality ceiling plinths, in addition to the main strips, have special inserts for right angles. Such inserts will significantly simplify installation and improve the quality of the work performed.

Features of cutting and joining baguette elements

Before starting work, you should watch the video.

Work instructions:

  • It is necessary to cut the baseboard from the front side and along the outer edges.
  • When cutting the inner corner, it is therefore necessary to process both sides of the baguette.
  • When performing work, it is better to use a miter saw, but at home you can get by with simple miter boxes.
  • For a foam baguette, its edges must be cut at an angle of 45°.
  • The cut on the right is made on the plinth glued to the left. And vice versa.
  • The bottom of the baguette should protrude above the top to obtain the optimal internal angle.

Cutting skirting boards using a miter box

A miter box is a device that can be made from:

  • Tree.
  • Aluminum.

By appearance This is a tray with grooves on the sides at different angles.

  • To cut a corner on a plinth, the element is mounted in the position in which it will be located on the plane of the ceiling.
  • The part should be placed correctly and pressed tightly to the base.
  • Carefully aligned to the plane on the ceiling.

Tip: The plinth should be tried dry before installation, and then marked with a pencil. This will prevent you from confusing the direction of the cut.

  • The desired groove is selected and made with your free hand, better with a hacksaw for metal, cutting the element along the groove.

  • For plinths made of hard material, it may be necessary to adjust the element with a file.
  • Do not use a lot of force when making the cut. Otherwise soft materials may become deformed and crumble.

Cutting skirting board corners without a miter box

You can cut the corners of the ceiling plinth without a miter box or make one yourself.

It's quite simple, using a few options:

  • Using available materials:
  1. a mold is made from three planks or thick plywood;
  2. cuts are made at an angle of 45° in the sides of the device. To mark, you need to use a protractor or square.

  • If there are no materials for manufacturing, or you need to cut a little, then:
  1. The paper is bent at the desired angle. It is placed on a block and a line is drawn along which the cut is made;
  2. the element is placed under the block and a cut is made according to the template.
  • The cutting angle of the ceiling plinth is determined and it is decided how best to cut the part. In this case:
  1. The plinth is placed at the installation site, and cutting line marks are made;
  2. the part is placed on a solid plane, in the position in which it will be installed. A vertical cut is made with a knife or hacksaw.

  • Using a hacksaw and a simple block:
  1. the plinth is applied to the place of fastening to the ceiling;
  2. a line is drawn on the ceiling and wall, which will be the basis for fixing the baguette;
  3. the plinth is applied to the connecting wall, and the same two lines are drawn;
  4. it turned out to be an intersection of two lines on the ceiling. One baguette is applied and a mark is placed at the intersection of the lines, which corresponds to the top point of the cut;
  5. the second part is applied to another wall. The same mark is placed;
  6. the plinth is placed on flat surface. A flat block is applied to the upper part, and the cut points are connected;
  7. A hacksaw or knife is used to cut the baseboard.

After this, you can begin fixing the baguette to the ceiling.

Non-standard angles

Everything is quite complicated here, a miter box is not useful, a hacksaw is optional. In houses and apartments with a non-standard layout, firstly, the angles may not be 90° at all. And secondly, they can generally be rounded or have several intersecting edges.

The first, most “collective farm” option is to cut “by eye” at 45°. To do this, take a joining part, which is adjusted to the previous angle in fact.

You can try on the design by weight; this is a rather long and painstaking task. Maximum precision required!

When adjusting, constantly try on the resulting pairing in place. Only after several fittings can you achieve a good result, and then glue the plinth to the base. In short, you can’t do without experience.

It is much more correct to transfer the markings of the edges of adjacent skirting boards to the ceiling, as shown in the photo. This technique will allow you to get rid of guesswork when determining the corner cut points.

Advice! It is very important when cutting the plinth on the inside corner, tilt the blade of the cutting tool to the desired part, approximately 45 degrees. If this is not done, a huge hole will appear at the joint due to the concave shape of the part. If you are preparing an external corner, tilt the blade in the opposite direction.

It is necessary to use a very sharp tool so as not to “sweep” the edges. Cutting tool with jagged edges, it is advisable not to use them at all. That is, a saw will not work here.

In cases where the corners are completely uneven or rounded, you can join several small elements. Feel free to cut the skirting boards into several parts, up to 4-5 pieces. Then, on each piece, cut both edges that meet at the desired angle. The next one is applied to each previous element, after which the joint is aligned.

Unfortunately, this method is not ideal, and no matter how hard you try, you may end up with a gap at the joint.

You can fix this in the following ways:

  • Take your time when gluing the cornices along straight sections. Take care of the corners first - in this case, you can trim them if necessary, or sand them until you get a good joint.
  • If you don’t succeed in solving the pruning problem perfectly, simply fill the cracks with a compound, matching the material of the cornice, and then paint it.

Cutting ceiling plinth is not a complicated process at all. The main thing is to do everything carefully, following the rules for performing work. After this, all the butt seams of the ceiling moldings will be practically invisible, and the renovation of the apartment will bring pleasure to its owner.
