How to make a sofa with your own hands: drawings with dimensions, step-by-step instructions, video. Making a soft corner with your own hands Making a corner sofa with your own hands

In order to make furniture, you need to create a drawing; it will also be impossible to make a sofa without this stage. You should not purchase expensive materials for sofas, including timber with large cross-section or laminated boards. It is not recommended to equip complex tenon joints, since only a professional carpenter can make them. You should not use nails as fasteners, as such connections will soon become loose and the sofa will begin to creak. There will be self-tapping screws the best solution. Additionally, you need to apply glue.

Making a corner sofa

In order to make a corner sofa design, you need to stock up the following materials and tools:

Figure 1. Schematic drawing of a sofa, the dimensions of which can be adjusted depending on the dimensions of the living room.

  • pine timber 30x50 mm;
  • 5- and 15-mm plywood;
  • lifting mechanism;
  • 3 mm fiberboard;
  • 16 mm chipboard;
  • legs in the amount of 9 pcs.;
  • 20- and 40 mm foam rubber;
  • upholstery fabric;
  • holofiber;
  • padding polyester;
  • batting,
  • hacksaw;
  • miter box;
  • stapler;
  • drill;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • screwdriver

Figure 2. Drawing of a sofa with measurements.

In Fig. 1 shows a schematic, the dimensions of which can be adjusted depending on the dimensions of the living room. Work should begin with laying out the elements, including: frame, back, armrests, seat. Assembly must be carried out in this sequence. The armrests must be identical, and they are assembled using self-tapping screws.

You can work on the frame of the left side by preparing two sidewalls, to which the longitudinal beams are attached, and then the racks. The latter should be reinforced with transverse ties. Now you can begin installing the seat on the left side. The seat frame needs to be installed. Once the frame is installed in the frame, you need to strengthen the plywood on top. Afterwards you can fix the fiberboard to the back of the left side. At the next stage, you can proceed to the installation of the right side.

Japanese futon folding product

To make a sofa, the frame of which can be covered or decorated with Japanese futons, you should use pine furniture panels.

The main modules, seat and backrest have frames that are mounted by connecting two side walls at the front and back using boards. The elements that are located lengthwise will need to be strengthened with a base for the mattress, which contains transverse slats.

Figure 3. Dimensions of workpieces that must be prepared before starting work.

In Fig. 2 you can see design drawings with dimensions. And fig. 3 contains the dimensions of the workpieces that must be prepared before starting work.

Using the drawing and circular saw, you need to cut the material. It is recommended to process the corners with a jigsaw, smoothing the edges with fine-grained sandpaper. Before installation, the elements must be coated with acrylic varnish, and then left for some time to dry. The side parts of the seat need to be connected to each other with longitudinal boards, using 2 dowels set with glue. Furniture screed will add additional rigidity to the structure. The same technology should be used to assemble the back of the sofa.

Hinge joints must be equipped with bolts and hex nuts. The longitudinal elements of the back and seat need to be strengthened with 30x30 mm bars using screws and glue.

In the holes of the longitudinal boards with a diameter of 10 mm, you need to install bushings, which are borrowed from furniture sets. M5x80 screws should be installed in them. You can mate the hinge joints of the legs with 80 mm screws. The planks need to be secured with a belt, for which you need to press the section that will act as a stop to the workbench with clamps.

The seat and back frames must be bolted together. In order to obtain a strong connection to the sides of the back, you need to glue the bars and press them with clamps until the drying is completely dry. The cross bars are installed on screws, which must be secured one at a time on both sides.

Using a self-prepared drawing, you can make any sofa, but it is better to entrust the cutting to professionals.

A corner sofa is always in demand. It is roomy and does not take up much space. It’s not for nothing that such sofas are called family sofas, because the whole family can sit on it. Handmade furniture is popular today, and sofas are no exception.

Pros of DIY

Originality of execution and independent choice shapes and colors - the main advantages self-made. At the same time, you control the price range yourself, choosing the material according to your wallet. Another plus is quality control. Everything depends only on you, and therefore there is no risk of being deceived.

The most pleasant thing is aesthetic pleasure and a feeling of pride in the work done. The delight of others and respectful glances at your brainchild will only strengthen this state. Therefore, you can safely take on the task of making a sofa for the comfort and coziness of your home.

Material selection

The choice of material should be approached very seriously; you need to think through the design of the sofa in advance. Having made a detailed list of everything you need, you can go to hardware store. The thickness and quantity of everything needed will depend only on your preferences and wishes.

The base of the sofa is most often made of wood, timber coniferous trees. Usually preference is given to pine timber, as it is stronger than its “brothers”. The following important materials can be highlighted:

  • Fiberboard – bottom for the sofa and drawers.
  • Chipboard – laminated, used for furniture panels (sofa base and armrests).
  • Plywood is the covering for the sofa frame. Birch is considered the best.
  • Foam rubber, synthetic winterizer - materials for stuffing the back of a sofa and pillows.
  • Upholstery fabric is a decorative part of the sofa, used for upholstery and creating the final look.
  • Fasteners - screws, self-tapping screws, corners, nails and everything that will be used to assemble the elements.
  • Retractable mechanism - type of mechanism, the choice depends on your desire, as well as on your skills.
  • Furniture legs – can be stable or on wheels.
  • Glue and threads are useful when joining pieces of foam rubber and re-upholstering work.

Required Tools

So, you will need to prepare the following:

  • A screwdriver with different attachments - for screwing in fasteners or creating holes.
  • Circular saw– for cutting large elements that require precision (or a jigsaw).
  • Hacksaw ( hand saw) and a miter box – for cutting precise angles.
  • Knife for cutting foam rubber and scissors for fabric.
  • Sewing machine – for the cover and upholstery.
  • Furniture stapler- to secure matter.
  • Twine or twine - to give an interesting shape to the back and various elements.

How to make your own model at home?

So, preparation is needed. To make a sofa, you need to make a drawing with all the dimensions and elements. If you have problems with cutting, you can order it from the store where you will purchase the materials.

Number all the parts (in accordance with the drawing) and carefully arrange everything in order of importance: the most necessary - on top or next to it, then smaller elements. It is important to start the assembly with large parts, then you need to gradually “build up” everything else onto the frame. Fastenings can only be screws. For durability, you can first glue it and then secure the result with screws.

Manufacturing.

Considering the fact that the sofa is corner, you should not confuse the details of the short and long sides. Execution order:

  • To begin, set up two sidewalls and, using fasteners, connect them to a horizontal beam and vertical posts. There must be at least four attachment points for each rack. The frame of one side is ready. Now it needs to be sheathed. A sheet of plywood is attached to the top of the frame. Chipboard needs to be attached to the back.

  • If the box is removable, then it can be made of fiberboard. For the lifting mechanism, drill holes for mounting bolts and secure.
  • Armrests for a sofa can be removable, fabric or connected to a frame. To do this, screw a beam that follows the shape of the armrest to the frame. All this is covered with chipboard.
  • If the armrests are of an unusual shape, with curves, then use fiberboard and a lot of small nails. Sharp edges need to be smoothed out so that the lining does not wear out.

  • Ready wooden structure cover with foam rubber - for the seats, take solid dense pieces for the left and right parts, and the back can be made into a prefabricated one, from several elements. The recommended thickness of foam rubber is more than 100 millimeters. If there is no such thickness, then thin elements can be glued together.

  • If you want to make an interesting back with curves, then use twine and leftover pieces of foam rubber, giving it a beautiful shape. For armrests it is better to use batting. The assembly of the base is complete at this stage.
  • Move on to the upholstery. To prevent the fabric from fraying, the foam rubber does not wear out, it is better to make a tightening between them with agrotextiles. For upholstery, choose dense, wear-resistant fabrics - tapestry, thermo-jacquard or chenille.

  • For accuracy and beauty, a pattern or pattern is needed. You can also lay the fabric against the sofa and mark the cutting areas with chalk. At the same time, do not forget to leave fabric allowances of 2-3 centimeters. When cutting out the back, take into account its shape, creating appropriate elements. The banner can be with stitched elements.
  • To create bulges in the back, use twine and a stapler. Make holes in the back for tensioning in advance. Place a loop through the holes and attach the twine to it.

  • When doing upholstery, make sure the tension is even. The picture must match. To make things easier, use plain fabrics or drawings that do not require precision.

If you are an amateur soft sofas, then you can sew the pillows to size and add them to the frame. If necessary, they can simply be removed.

We do it on the balcony or gazebo

With a corner sofa on the balcony and in the gazebo, you are guaranteed comfort. On warm summer evenings it will be very pleasant to gather with the whole family or invite friends.

Such a sofa can be created from ordinary and familiar pallets. Another name is pallets.

All the work consists of building required design from boxes and their fastening. However, for aesthetics, you need to pre-treat the pallets in any convenient way that suits the interior - sanding, painting, varnishing, creating an aging or glossy effect, decoupage, drawing. Whatever comes to mind and matches the fabric will do.

Any interior modern apartment, a private house involves the installation upholstered furniture: bed, armchair or sofa. Previously, it was assumed that the living room served as the place where the sofa would be placed. Today, developers present so many sofas different types, which in terms of its functional characteristics and appearance they can be located in almost any room, from the kitchen to the balcony.

A new owner of upholstered furniture often has the question of how to assemble a sofa with their own hands. The installation process itself does not imply the presence of a special type technical knowledge and skills. The complete set of any sofas implies the presence of a user manual, which details the mechanism of how to do this.

But you need to take into account the fact that different shapes and fillers of soft parts make certain adjustments to the overall picture of the assembly. Therefore, it is worth paying attention to what sofas can be.

Sofa shapes and types of filling

The following types are distinguished:

Straight is a popular option, often called a classic sofa. Finding the required dimensions of such a sofa to suit the room will not be difficult.

Corner is a roomy and L-shaped option that is practical, saves space by being placed in a corner, and also combines the function of a bed.

Modular is a representative of a new generation of upholstered furniture that does not have a fixed configuration. There are sections that are transformed and composed in accordance with the ideas of the owner of the sofa. At the same time, they can either be fastened together or simply placed next to each other.

In the production of soft parts, two types of fillers are used, defining the following varieties: spring sofas(with dependent and independent blocks) and foam rubber (they use polyurethane foam).

Spring sofas are heavier than foam sofas and during installation can cause a number of difficulties due to their weight.

Assembling a straight sofa

If, after purchasing a sofa, a decision was made to install it yourself, then a certain sequence of actions is necessary and a mandatory study of the sofa assembly diagram is necessary. First, you need to carefully remove each part from the packaging without damaging the upholstery. After which it is recommended to simply leave them in this state for a while so that the material can “assimilate” moisture and temperature conditions premises.

At this time, you can check the quantity and quality of the accessories that come with the kit, and also prepare the required tools: screwdrivers, you may need a drill with drills of the required diameter, hexagons.

The next step is to screw the legs, if any. This needs to be done for the simple reason that assembled form the design will be less agile and much heavier. In addition, it makes sense to free up space for further work so that all parts and tools are in sight.

Included straight sofa includes the main frame and additional elements (backrest, armrests, decorative components).

The basic assembly process is carried out as follows:

We install the fasteners by aligning the holes and inserting bolts, self-tapping screws or screws into them as provided in the manual. Next, carefully twist them. Similarly, we connect the seat and back of the sofa. The design obtained at this step is the basis.

Then we install armrests on both sides of the frame and that’s it. decorative elements, if any. There are cases where the mounting holes were not visible because they were hidden behind the upholstery. Then it should be carefully bent. The instructions should say this.

At the last step we check sliding mechanism, if the sofa is equipped with it. Its operation should proceed smoothly, without creaking or extraneous sounds.

It is important to remember that it makes sense to not tighten the internal fasteners all the way; later, if the sofa is not mounted correctly, it will be easier to disassemble it. However, after completing the work, we must not forget about tightening all fastening points.

Corner sofa and the nuances of its installation

Assembly corner sofa involves the connection of two or three parts, which are seats, backrests and a retractable part. Any specialist will recommend assembling the large elements of the sofa first, and then the small ones.

First of all, you need to familiarize yourself with the design of such a sofa. It can be right-handed or left-handed, one part of it is longer than the other, the folding mechanism itself is different models also different; The assembly sequence will depend on these facts.

The frame, armrests, seats and backrests are the parts of a corner sofa, the connection of which requires the following steps:

  • First, the supports are attached to the base, corner sections and armrests using screws. Rollers are installed on the retractable part. All elements must be strictly recorded.
  • Using screws, one of the armrests is connected to the corner section. It is necessary to check the stability of the fixed elements.
  • The base section and backrest are installed, and the box is connected to the second armrest, after which the assembled structure is fastened to the corner section.
  • Installed back wall, fixed with armrests. The stability of the resulting structure should be checked again.
  • Finally, a roll-out mechanism is attached to the guides installed in the base part.

There are corner sofas (Atlanta) complete with a table that is attached to the side and serves as an armrest. The Atlanta sofa is assembled in the following sequence: first, the transport fasteners are removed and the roll-out seat, secured with a special stop, is pulled out, the screws are unscrewed with a screwdriver.

Next, the armrest is aligned with the back of the sofa and secured with two hexagon screws. Then through metal corner The back of the ottoman box and its wall are secured with three screws. A bar table is screwed to the ottoman with two hexagon screws, which also serves as a second armrest. In this way, two modules are assembled, and subsequently they are tightened together with fasteners.

Assembling a modular sofa

Each furniture manufacturer has its own design of modular sofas; the only thing that remains unchanged is that they can be assembled and disassembled at your own discretion. Another advantage of the modules is the fact that they themselves are often sold already assembled, and the buyer is given the opportunity to combine them at his discretion.

But if the sofa configuration requires a more complex module, you will need to do a number of additional actions taking into account the specifics specific model. Modular sofas come in two types: sectional and convertible.

The sectional option implies rigid connection ready-made modules, which the buyer chooses himself in the store. The possibility of combining exists precisely at the pre-sale stage, when they are considered various options layout. And here you may need sofa assembly drawings that reflect all the nuances of possible combinations. Then, already in place, the sofa is connected with fasteners and remains in this form permanently.

More interesting option is transformable modular system. The number of purchased sections is unlimited, then any design is formed from them. Originally purchased modular sofa when rearranging the sections, it can become a single bed or a set of armchairs. In addition, sections can be given a variety of geometric shapes: square, rectangular, round, etc.

Thus, the process of assembling a sofa is quite a responsible task. But it can be done by anyone who has time, necessary tool and the desire to do it with your own hands. In any case, there is always the opportunity to contact professionals, assemblers from the company from which the sofa was purchased, or private individuals providing installation services.

Sofa book: how to make it yourself

You need to start making a sofa book with your own hands by creating the basic frame structural elements. These are the seat and back, sides and a storage box.

DIY sofa step by step. Photo

. Box

Work begins by making a box. You will need to take two boards one hundred ninety centimeters and eighty centimeters long. Their width is twenty centimeters and their thickness is two and a half centimeters. Also need four bar 20cm long and with a cross section of 5x5cm.

A box is assembled from these materials.

The structure is supplemented with slats installed transversely, made of boards 80 cm long, 5 cm wide and 2 cm thick. The bottom is covered with a fiberboard sheet with dimensions of 190x80cm.

. Seat and back

To make the seat and back frames, take timber with a section of 40x60cm. A rectangle of 189x65cm is made from it. The timber parts are connected with nails and self-tapping screws, drilling holes.

Attached to finished frames lamellas made of wood. They will become a support for the mattress.

. Armrests

First from the sheet Chipboard, the thickness of which is 2.5 cm, the side walls of the sofa are cut out. The dimensions are in the photo.

Then a frame is knocked down according to the same dimensions, to which the sawn wall is attached.

Holes are drilled on the sides of the box using a drill with a diameter of 10 mm.

. Assembly

When all the frames are assembled, the sofa parts are connected. To assemble a sofa book with your own hands, you will need special mechanisms. They are sold in hardware stores intended for upholstered furniture. They are attached so that there is a gap of 1 cm between the back and the seat (when they are unfolded). When folded, the seat should not extend beyond the level of the armrests.

. Laying foam rubber

Fixed on top of the slats interlining. They lay on it foam sheets, the thickness of which is about six centimeters. To ensure that the sheet is correctly placed on the frame and does not cover the transformation mechanism, pieces are cut out in the corners.

To make a soft cushion on the edge of the seat, a strip of foam rubber 2 cm thick and 20 cm wide is glued there. Another sheet of foam rubber, 4 cm thick, is glued on top. Its edge is folded down, under the seat.

Similar actions are performed with the back. Then covers, sewn to size, are pulled over the back and seat.

To make soft armrests, a roller is made of foam rubber. Foam rubber is used with a thickness of 4 cm. The width of the strip is initially 15 cm, and towards the middle it decreases to 5 cm.

Foam rubber 2cm thick is fixed on top.

TO inside such foam rubber is glued to the armrest at a distance of 32 cm from the bottom edge.

After gluing, the back of the foam sheet is fixed on top of the existing material. The excess is cut off.

There are protruding edges on the front side of the armrest that need to be tucked in.

Finished parts are covered with fabric and nailed to them accessories.

All that remains is to assemble the sofa completely with your own hands.

The frame of the product is assembled from sheet material and timber. They fasten it with self-tapping screws.

The frame is covered with foam rubber and synthetic padding. A folding one is installed inside mechanism.

For the folding part you will need mattress which is easier to do with my own hands. To do this, you should select foam rubber of suitable density and thickness.

The surface of the sofa is covered with fabric.

Seat cushions are made up of sheets foam rubber of different densities and pasted over with padding polyester.

The pillows and mattress are covered with fabric.

Of course, one of the main elements of furniture in the house is the sofa. This thing is extremely necessary and useful, in addition to comfortable rest You can hide a lot of household items in it, using it instead of a pantry or closet. The shape of a corner sofa is the most convenient for its location in any room and interior design.

Having decided to make a corner sofa with your own hands for the first time, you should not choose intricate shapes with niches and shelves, ovals and semicircles; first try to make the most simplified version of this design. It is also important that by making a sofa yourself you will save the financial costs of it at least twice.

You need to start making a sofa by drawing up a sketch of its size and intended shape. Various are suitable for assembling the frame wooden boards and beams, as well as all kinds of particle boards (OSB, chipboard, fibreboard, plywood, etc.).

Next required material this is foam rubber, synthetic winterizer, batting, spandbond or similar substitutes.

Assembly, as a rule, begins with the lower element of the sofa frame, namely the seat.

The width of the board is within 20-25 cm, the rectangular frame is twisted through with self-tapping screws or metal corner plates from the back.

We line the bottom of the box with OSB sheets.

When it comes to covering the top of the seat box, there are several options.

The first option is to tightly twist the OSB sheet or stuff the binding from rope straps and put a foam cushion on top, the second one is to glue foam rubber onto the OSB sheet and make one-piece case seats, which can be attached to the frame with hinges and arranged as a niche. In our version, we use both options, one half of the seat will be filled, and the second will be made liftable.

The next element of the frame is the back, its frame is made of boards, the supporting part is sewn up with an OSB sheet. There is no need to sheathe the back part with sheets, just stretch it and cover it with spandbond or cotton fabric.

Here you see what it looks like closed version seats. By the way, the dimensions of the width, length of the seat and the height of the backrest directly depend on the available finishing materials, namely foam rubber mats and backrest cushions, although they can also be made from foam rubber.

The second part of the corner sofa is made in the same order, the only change is in the upper seat. Glue a sheet of OSB onto a cut-to-size box spray glue foam rubber, then cover it with padding polyester and spandbond, stretch and nail their edges along the perimeter of the back side with a stapler. We sew the cover to size and tighten it. After which it will be placed on top of the seat and, if desired, secured with furniture hinges.

The connecting corner element is made of the same materials and fits the dimensions of the two side parts. We cover the lower front part and the back with batting, and put spandbond on top. It has a sliding surface and with its use it will be more convenient to stretch and level upholstery covers and weave.

We cover the back sides of all three parts with cotton fabric or any other fabric that you may have in stock.

One of the important stages in making a corner sofa with your own hands is sewing covers and upholstering the permanent parts of the frame. To sew Czech covers you will naturally need sewing machine, in case of its absence, you can cut necessary details and ask someone you know to sew them.

The legs for the frames are made of wooden blocks with through holes, secured with screws to the frames, made to size lower boxes from the corner wooden plinth. Having attached the frame to the frame, through the holes in the legs, we use long screws to tighten them to the main frame.

Having installed the corner part, we move the two side ones towards it and twist the lower walls together. As you can see, this option does not have side armrests, but they are quite simple to make.

We twist the (light) frame to the required size.

We wrap it with batting or padding polyester, or you can cover it with foam rubber.

We sew the cover and tighten the frame. You can attach it to the main frame in several ways, install furniture clamping knitting needles, or it’s easier to twist it with self-tapping screws from under the seats during assembly.
