How to properly install doors in a log house. Overview of the features of installing door casing in wooden houses

In general, door and window openings in the walls are installed immediately after the installation of the log house. Does this initially construction crew according to the project. But there are situations when it is necessary to make a door or window opening in a wooden house that has already been completely built. Most often this is due to the need to construct an additional doorway in order to warm air from the system penetrated faster into all rooms of the house. Well, or I just wanted to cut out an additional window opening.

It is quite natural that the more solid the wall, the easier it is to create an opening in it. More precisely, it’s not so much simpler, but faster and at the lowest cost. Everything depends on.

Door and window openings in a wooden house made of logs or timber

After all, in order to create door or window openings in the walls wooden house You won’t need much from logs or timber. This is a plumb line, a long ruler (the longer, the better. A meter-long straight line will do just fine), a marker or pencil with a thick lead, a hammer, nails and a regular gas or electric saw.

Just in case, it’s also worth preparing 100x100 mm bars. the height of the room, that is, 2-2.5 meters long - more about them later.

There are times when, when cutting through a door or window opening, the wall of a wooden house begins to bend in one direction or another. If such a problem occurs in these bars and the wall of the house on equal distances drill through holes for bolts from each other. Then the prepared bars are placed against the wall of the house on both sides (sometimes it is enough only with inside) from deflection, and with bolts they tighten the protruding part of the masonry of the house wall between the bars.

Then the work of sawing the opening in the wall of the wooden house is resumed, and after installing the frame, these bars are removed, since the frame itself strengthens the window or doorway.

FYI. If your wooden house is made of logs, then the openings must be arranged, leaving not the whole, but 1/5 or 2/3 of the logs at the top and bottom of the opening. This is done so that the window frame and doorways was subsequently performed correctly.

Read more about the construction of the frame (casing) of window and door openings, about the application cranial block and about installing windows and doors in a wooden house, read.

Important. Before sawing an opening, make sure that there are solid logs or beams above the future opening, which will evenly distribute the future load on the walls along different sides opening.

FYI. If the frame of a wooden house is assembled from laminated veneer lumber, then when sawing, the boards glued together may peel off. To avoid this problem, boards are nailed to the walls of the house on both sides of the opening.

Door and window openings in a wooden frame house

To make an opening in the wall frame house for a door or window, in the place of the proposed opening, you will first have to get rid of the cladding, both external and internal, and remove the entire internal pie of insulation, etc. That is, in fact, it is necessary to leave only the frame made of beams.

Then a frame for the future window or door is arranged between the load-bearing vertical posts, and the remaining sections of the wall are sewn up again.

As you can see, if available the necessary tool, skill and desire, it is not at all difficult to arrange an additional door or window opening in a wooden house. The main thing here is the right place in the wall, steady hand, unhurriedness and the help of one or two people.

What is the difference between installing a metal door in a wooden house and installing it in a stone building? The first and most significant difference is the material of the opening. The whole process largely depends on it. Therefore, it is established only when the properties of wood have been studied.

Specifics of installing an iron door in a wooden house

At self-installation Products need to be extremely careful, since even a minor mistake will cause a lot of trouble. Wood is enough capricious material. Wooden buildings have a number of features that cannot be ignored when installing a steel structure:

When installing a metal door in a wooden house, it is important to take into account all these nuances in order to prevent deformation and breakage of the structure.

List of required tools

Taking into account technological characteristics building material, for work you will need a set of tools:

  • level;
  • medium-sized scrap;
  • nail puller;
  • hacksaw or chainsaw;
  • chisel;
  • anchors;
  • foam for installation.

Installation instructions

Installation of the product requires a clear sequence of actions. Step by step instructions will allow you to get an overall picture of the entire scope of work and not lose your way. consists of four stages.

Metal door installation diagram

Preparing the opening

The locations of openings in the building are provided for by the design. They are made at the construction stage or cut out with a chainsaw after the house is built.

During construction, an opening for the door is cut out

The width of the opening should be 150 mm larger than required by the door structure. This is necessary to install a casing box with a width of 65 mm. It is also necessary to leave a gap of 15 cm at the top, which will be closed over time by the settled crowns.

When replacing the old one frame door Preparation of the opening begins with its dismantling. It will not be possible to disassemble the structure special labor. To do this you need:

Assembly and installation of casing

The frame or casing is the name given to the bars around the perimeter of the opening, which form a rigid base for fastening the door. It does not prevent shrinkage wooden structure, but at the same time protects the openings from distortions that appear under the influence of settling crowns. When installing the casing, a groove is made at the ends of the opening using a router.

To install the frame, you need to cut a groove at the ends of the opening

Then a beam is inserted into it. It is also called a sliding bar, along which the entire house settles. The contours of the opening remain unchanged.

A sliding bar is installed in the groove

It is also possible to use others that perform exactly the same function. The choice of connection type is a matter of taste.

A cross-bar is installed at the top, and soft insulation is placed in the gap. The beams are extended on the sides with boards, the width of which is equal to the width of the end. As a result of these actions, a rough frame is obtained to which the iron door will be attached.

The door casing is arranged by analogy with the window
Finished casing

Installation of box and canvas

For buildings made of wood, frames with a high degree of rigidity are usually chosen. As a rule, this is a welded mechanism made of sheet material with a thickness of at least 2 mm.

Installation of a steel frame is carried out only when the diagonals of the frame coincide. If this does not happen, the casing will need to be corrected. Otherwise, the metal frame will become uneven, which will lead to the destruction of the casing.

Before inserting the front door frame into the opening, it should be insulated mineral wool and thereby seal the joints. Often there are products with an insulated box. In this case, no additional manipulations are required before installation.

The gap between the door frame and the casing should be in the range from 1.5 to 3 cm. It is filled with polyurethane foam.

Once you have managed to place the iron box in the opening, align it and secure it. To ensure that the load is evenly distributed over the entire wall, it is recommended to increase the number of fastening points.

After installing the box in the opening, it is aligned and fixed

The length of the anchors should not be greater than the thickness of the carriages. Fastening elements are installed in checkerboard pattern so that they enter the carriage on both sides of the ridge.

The next step is hanging the sash. IN iron doors 2 fastening methods are used:

  • Welded external hinges. To put on the canvas, you need to lift it and put it on top part loops on the pin. This fastening is considered unreliable, since the loops are easily cut off.
  • Hidden hinges. They are inserted into the sash or hatch and are considered burglar-proof. To carry out installation, you will need a hex key, which is used to tighten the fittings.

By opening and closing the door, check that it is hung correctly

The correctness of the door hinge is checked by opening and closing it.

Filling cracks with foam

After installation is complete, it is necessary to foam the cracks around the iron box. If you don't want it, cover its edges with masking tape.

After the polyurethane foam has hardened, its excess is removed. As decoration. The overhead strips are not attached to the wall, but to a steel frame.

Installing doors and windows in a log house is a responsible undertaking. Installation is complicated by the fact that, as is known, wood is capable of changes - shrinkage, shrinkage, etc. Therefore, in order to avoid defects and not spend money on purchasing new kits, you must carefully read these instructions and be sure to follow its advice.

Leaving the log house open is important

What does this phrase mean? But here's the thing - after the construction is completed, the most intense moment of shrinkage begins, which will last at least a year. During this time, if the doors and windows are already installed, they will simply be crushed.

Moreover, wood is much stronger than metal and can bend, even, it seemed, reliable designs. To prevent something irreparable from happening, you should carefully consider what is described below.

Before starting work, you should know in advance what size the entrance and swing structures will be. Usually, if the project is standard, then all measurements are put aside on drawings and diagrams and there is no need to bother. But if the log house is installed independently, then there is something to think about and decide quickly, since it is necessary that the cut opening fits together with the entire structure.

So, the installation stages:

  • Before the log house has to be left to shrink, it is recommended to make the necessary openings. How to saw through a door in a log house? Actually this is not the most difficult question.

The required size is determined, and the diagonals must be taken into account, and the outline is drawn on the log house. You need to make sure that the bottom log is divided in half, and the top one too. Then 7 to 10 cm is added to these sides for shrinkage.

The thickness of the door frame ± 2-3 cm is added to the side ones. It is necessary to fill the edges of the future opening with boards to protect the short crowns from falling out. Thus, when the contours are ready, the desired size is selected with a saw.

  • If the log house requires the presence of several entrances, one of which should be the front entrance, then the question of how to cut a door in the log house, when a greater distance is required, must be resolved more scrupulously. Board protection must be present on both sides - external and internal.

Moment of sawing

To avoid any difficulties with the question of how to cut a door in a log house, you must first determine the middle log of the opening and make slits on it. After that it is easy to knock it inside. Well, then working with a saw will no longer be difficult.

If everything was done correctly and the soil did not fail, then you can begin the next stage - how to insert a door into a log house when the structure is already ready. If the opening does not meet the requirements, it is adjusted to the required size.

Door installation methods

Casing

  • To ensure that the door in the log house does not fail and the house itself does not have an unfavorable effect on the structure, you should think about such a product as a casing. What is it?

This door element, having a longitudinal tenon, which is inserted into the vertical side walls and, thus, further shrinkage can only affect it, without affecting the door in any way. The question of how to embed a door into a log house can be solved perfectly with the help of a casing.

  • How to do this? An end groove is selected in the sides of the opening. The box already contains a spike.

The space selected with a chisel is compacted, for example, with tow, and the side board is installed. Then the upper horizontal part is attached. It will serve as a spacer.

It cannot be left without a gap of 5 cm with the log house. Self-tapping screws and nails are suitable as fasteners. The bottom one can also be cut for a tenon.

The next method is on bars

Its difference is that bars with a cross section of 5*5 cm are inserted into the vertical groove selected on the sides of the opening. This is done to save material, and even if the door already comes with a frame.

The bars can be wrapped in tow and fixed in the grooves, and then the door frame is attached to them in the same order - a side part, a horizontal strut, the next side and a threshold. The disadvantage of solving such an issue - how to install a door in a log house on bars - is the possible weakening of the frame due to the smallness of the intra-groove material.

Installation of metal doors

In this case, no cuts are made. The box is installed using anchor bolts and a hammer drill. Everything in advance metal racks aligned to the ideal position, because the material is not soft, unlike wood, and will not bend at will.

The canvas is hung at the very end, when confidence comes in the correctness of the solution to the question - how to make a door in a log house from metal. Better installation Such massive, but necessary for the protection of structures, should be left to professionals.

If only because such a door itself is terribly heavy and the installation period can become a real torment for the owner. Yes, and it won’t take long to strain yourself.

Every person tends to get lost in routine. everyday life. Sometimes you want to forget everything and just enjoy the quiet moments of life. Having country house, you can build a bathhouse with your own hands, because this is not only a place where people come to wash, here you can pleasantly relax your soul and body. Correct installation Making a door to a bathhouse with your own hands will not be a time-consuming process if you know where to start and how to finish.

Some subtleties when choosing a door to a bathhouse

Usually, when building a bathhouse, the location of two doors is provided: one leads to the bathhouse itself, the second leads to the steam room. Installing doors to a steam room has its own characteristics. The door must retain its structure and be resistant to heat, high humidity and temperature changes. The door should not only look beautiful, its main function is to thermally insulate the room.

That's why the best solution for a Russian bathhouse is to install a wooden bathhouse door with your own hands. Initially, doors are divided into single-leaf and double-leaf. In bathhouses with a “white firebox,” single-leaf doors are popular, but for a smoky bathhouse it is better to choose double door to get rid of smoke by opening only one half. But the choice always depends on the owners.

For Turkish baths, where the air humidity level is almost one hundred percent, glass doors are installed.

How to install a wooden door in a log bathhouse

There are two ways to install a wooden door:

  1. Install a spike in the opening on the log and then put on the jamb;
  2. Make a groove in the opening for the block on which the doors will be held.

The width of the opening should be 1-2 cm larger than the door frame, then check the perpendicularity using a plumb line and building level. The opening is cut out to the last log, then a threshold will be cut into it.

After the opening is ready, it must be leveled or plumb. The cutout in the opening should allow the bar to fit freely, but it should not dangle. Next, the jamb is nailed to the installed block. After it is installed door leaf and all cracks are sealed.

How to install a metal door in a log bathhouse

The metal door block is made of a frame and canvas. Such doors are usually installed in bathhouses made of brick, wood or foam concrete. The gap between the block and the wall should be 2-2.5 cm.

The first step when installing doors to a log bathhouse is to make a frame with an upper gap of 10 cm.

Entrance door the bathhouse should open outwards, this is necessary to prevent difficulties in evacuation during a fire.

Preparatory work for the installation of metal doors

Before you begin installing the doors, you must preparatory work, and the whole process looks like this:

  • The opening is being prepared;
  • Sizes are customized;
  • The box is fixed to the opening;
  • The cracks are sealed;
  • The door leaf is installed.

It is customary to install the block flush with the wall and secure it anchor plates. If desired, the block can be made recessed into the opening and it can be secured anchor bolts or steel pins. The door frame inserted into the opening is pushed apart with wooden wedges to fix the product in the desired position.

The position of the box is adjusted using a building level; the position is adjusted by moving the blades to the side or inward. After adjusting the desired position, the box will be tightly fixed and will not move during the drilling process.

Afterwards, the canvas is put on and its movement is checked, which should be free when opening and closing the doors. Next, you need to remove the door in order to secure the lintel with the threshold on the narthex side and put it on again, checking the movement again. You can correct the position of the box by tightening or loosening the nuts.

Having finished installing the box, it is left without a canvas to seal the technological gaps with polyurethane foam, having previously sealed it with construction tape. Excess polyurethane foam is cut off and covered with casing.

How to make and why you need a pigtail

When installing doors to a bathhouse, you should make a frame and install the top strip, since the lintel of the frame will act as a support. To avoid skewing of the doors, they are attached to carriages inserted into the groove.

If during the construction of the log house openings were initially provided, then between the lintel and doorway there must be a gap of at least 10 cm, and 6 cm on the sides.

Holes for bolts are made before installation: two holes on the lintel and threshold and three holes on the hinged and hinged jambs. Then the bolts are inserted and the nuts are tightened.

The beam for the frame should be 100x150 cm. According to the height of the doors, the carriages are sawn off and a groove 5 cm deep is cut along the axis of the beam on one of the selected sides, and a 5 cm groove is made on both sides of the frame for a quarter of the width of the wall. The resulting comb-shaped structure is finished with a chisel.

Next, tape tow is fixed to the ridges, carriages are installed, and then metal doors are installed. The gaps of the carriages should remain 1 cm, and the upper gap of the door opening should be 10 cm. The box is attached only from the side of the carriages and the threshold with self-tapping screws.

It is not recommended to seal technological gaps and cracks in a new log house with polyurethane foam, but use tow for this purpose. After three years, the tow can be replaced with foam, but earlier this may lead to loss of tightness.

How to install interior doors in a bathhouse

Installation interior doors the bathhouse has no special differences from the front door:

  • The box is assembled;
  • The canvas and box beams are equipped with fittings;
  • The position of the box is adjusted and then secured;
  • The canvas is put on;
  • Finished with platbands.

From time immemorial, houses and various courtyard buildings were built from wood. This is primarily due to the fact that wood was the most accessible building material.

Nowadays the situation has changed. Nowadays, not everyone has the opportunity to build a house or bathhouse from round timber or timber. If such a chance does arise, then construction must be approached with all responsibility and a lot of nuances taken into account, paying attention to the smallest details.

For example, an important aspect is the installation of a door in a log house. At first glance, there is nothing complicated in carrying out such work, but this is not so.

Failure to follow the installation rules will lead to the fact that over time the door will no longer close well.

Features and nuances of installing doors in a log house

The first thing you need to know in order to properly make a door in a log house is the presence of solid logs or beams in the opening (depending on the chosen material).

Quite often, in order to save material, openings for windows and doors are cut out in advance. This helps reduce waste. But at the same time, extrusion of the crowns may occur. It will be very difficult to correct such an oversight.

Installation of the entrance door in a log house should be carried out no earlier than 6 months from the completion of the construction of walls and installation of the roof. During this period of time, the house will settle, which will allow the door to be installed in the log house without fear of negative consequences.

The log house gives full settlement in 6 years. Settlement indicators depend on many factors, for example, on how wet the timber is or on what soil the structure is built. It should be noted that the amount of precipitation ranges from 5 to 7 centimeters, moreover, the main part of this process is carried out in the first year.

Draft is the main factor to consider when installing a door. If you forget about this feature of wooden log houses, then the doorway may become skewed and it will be impossible to install a normally functioning door in it.

There are two ways to install a door in a log house:

  • the first method is to install a siege beam;
  • the second is installation of the casing.

It is worth noting that special attention should be given attention to installation door design in rooms with high humidity. The bathhouse is largely distinguished by these characteristics.

What tools will be needed for installation?

When deciding how to make a doorway and insert a door, first of all you need to decide on the tools necessary for this work. They must be at hand at all times. This will allow installation to be completed as quickly as possible. To carry out the work you will need:

  • chainsaw or electric saw with a bar;
  • hammer;
  • perforator;
  • circular saw or manual milling machine;
  • chisel;
  • construction measuring instruments: level (preferably laser), tape measure and square.

As a rule, searching for tools will not take much time, because all of them, one way or another, were used during the installation of the log house. Having prepared everything you need and understood how to install the door correctly, you can begin work.

Method N 1. Installing doors using a special casing

The procedure for carrying out work by installing a special casing is as follows:

  • The first step is to cut out the opening intended for installing the door frame. It needs to be cut in such a way that half of the log or beam remains on top and bottom.
  • Next, using a cutter, you need to cut a groove at the end of the opening measuring at least 50 × 50 millimeters. You can use a chisel to adjust the size of the groove.
  • A beam is inserted into the resulting opening. It is necessary to take into account its length. If the log house is new, then the size of the timber should be 5 centimeters smaller. If the structure has already shrunk, then the length of the beam should be less than 2 centimeters.

In some cases, the timber needs to be strengthened. This can be done using a board with a thickness of at least 50 millimeters, and its width must be no less than the size of the wall.

Sometimes, instead of timber, metal channels of appropriate sizes are used. Additional reinforcement of the opening is important when constructing heavy buildings, for example two-story buildings.

After the bars are fixed in the side parts of the opening, a threshold should be made. To achieve maximum strength, a timber with a thickness of at least 10 centimeters is used, which must be cut in a T-shape.

Method No. 2. Circular casing made of timber

Installing doors in a log house using the second method can also be done with your own hands. The principle of its implementation is not much different from the first. All you need to do is install the blank under the box, following the rules mentioned above.

In other words, it is necessary to install beams around the entire perimeter of the opening. They can be fastened to each other in several ways:

In addition, it is possible to install the casing without the use of fasteners. To do this, you need to fit the bars as tightly as possible to each other.

It should be noted that in most cases, the construction of log houses is carried out according to this principle. Pressure created by weight building materials, quite sufficient for the stability of the structure. The bars must be installed by surprise.

Features of installing the door structure

If you need to install wooden doors, then installation of the frame is not required; its role will be played by the casing system. An exception may be the situation when, as finishing material wood lining is used. Then the box is placed on polyurethane foam.

After installation, the box is closed with platbands. In case of severe shrinkage, they can be replaced with new ones or simply reinstalled by adjusting the dimensions.

If you plan to install a metal door, then the casing is done a little differently. Its upper part does not need to be installed. Instead, you need to leave a gap that allows settlement to occur naturally.

The main advantage of a metal door is strength. Its box is able to withstand the pressure of wood during shrinkage without any consequences.

When cutting an opening, a number of recommendations should be taken into account:

  • firstly, its height should be 150 millimeters greater than the door;
  • secondly, the width of the opening should be 100–120 millimeters larger than the box (if its installation is necessary).

The above requirements are relevant and, if necessary, install a window. The casing must be carried out in any case, even if the opening cut in the log house is small.

When carrying out the work described above, the possibility of the formation of cold bridges should be taken into account. To avoid this, it is necessary to use thermal insulation materials, for example those with which the wall was insulated.

In other words, cracks and gaps formed during the installation process can be sealed with tow, polyurethane foam and other materials with similar functions.

It is preferable to use polyurethane foam, because it not only prevents drafts, but also gives strength to the structure. At the same time, it is much easier to use.

Installing a door in a log house with your own hands: ways to cut a doorway in a bathhouse

Installation of the entrance door in the log house of the bathhouse should be carried out no earlier than 6 months from the completion of the construction of the walls and installation of the roof. This will allow you to install the door without fear of shrinkage.

Before you begin installing the door, you should decide on its design. We have already discussed what types of doors there are in this article. You can choose any one that suits you in terms of reliability and cost.

Particular attention should be paid to the front door. It is she who is most exposed to natural phenomena in the form of rain, snow, winter frost and summer heat, and also perceives the stress that arises due to a significant temperature difference inside and outside the bathhouse.

You can watch the installation of the front door in this way in the video below (click on the triangle to play):

This option is well suited for installing a lightweight panel door made of tongue-and-groove boards. But if you need to install a heavier door (for example, metal), then the door frame will have to be made more reliable - U-shaped.

Before installation, you need to determine the required size of the doorway. Its width will be equal to the width of the door itself, plus the thickness of the door frame on each side, plus the thickness of the frame (about 50 mm). You can also leave 3 centimeters on each side if you are foaming the door frame.

For marking, use a plumb line and level:

How to properly install a door in a log house

Installation of doors in a log house

It is difficult to imagine a bathhouse without windows and doors. These are the same important elements as the stove, walls and roof. However, installing doors in a log house made of logs or timber is somewhat different from installing doors in a brick bathhouse.

The main feature of the log house is its inconstancy geometric dimensions in the first two to three years. During this time, shrinkage and shrinkage occur, which leads to a gradual decrease in the height of the walls.

After shrinkage has occurred and the logs have dried properly, they caulk the log house. This again leads to an increase in the height of the walls. It is clear that if immediately after construction wooden bath you insert the doors, then in best case scenario, after a while you will not be able to open them, in the worst case, they will be destroyed by the vertical load of the settling crowns of the log house.

What to do? Leave the bathhouse without doors for two years?

Of course not. There is a simple solution, which we will discuss with you in this article.

Entrance door to the bathhouse

Before you begin installing the door, you should decide on its design. We have already discussed what kind of doors there are in the article Door for a bathhouse. You can choose any design that suits you in terms of its complexity, reliability and cost.

Much attention should be paid to the front door. It is this door that is most exposed to natural phenomena in the form of rain, snow, winter frost and summer heat, and also perceives stresses arising due to a significant temperature difference inside and outside the bathhouse.

Having decided on the design of the front door, you can begin assembling it or purchasing it and installing it in the log house.

How are doors installed in a bathhouse?

In one of the previous publications, we already looked at the process of installing a window in a log house. Installing doors is not much different from installing windows.

The door frame is mounted in a frame (frame, casing), which allows it to move within the doorway during shrinkage of the log house.

What is a socket (frame, casing)?

A frame or flashing is a special design used for installing windows and doors in a log house. This design consists of two bars connected at the top by a board.

The simplest version of the frame is to make a 50x50 groove at the ends of the logs of the doorway, into which the same 50x50 bars are inserted, and to them, in turn, is attached door frame, above which a gap of 6-8 cm is left to the log passing above the box for shrinkage of the log house. The gap is filled with insulation and covered with a platband.

This option is well suited for installing a lightweight panel door made of tongue-and-groove boards. But if you need to install a door of a heavier structure (for example, metal door), then the pigtail will have to be made into a more reliable U-shape.

Installation of doors in a log house using a U-shaped frame (frame, casing)

Before installing the door, you need to determine the size of the doorway. The width of the opening will be equal to the width of the door, plus the thickness of the door frame on each side, plus the thickness of the frame (about 50 mm). You can also leave 3 centimeters on each side if you are foaming the door frame.

Having determined the required dimensions of the doorway, you can proceed to markings. For marking, use a plumb line and a level.

After marking, the opening is cut out using a chainsaw.

To install the frame (frame), a 50x50 tenon is formed at the ends of the logs on each side of the doorway in the form of a vertical ridge for the entire height of the opening. A pigtail with a groove of the same size will be mounted on it.

At the top and bottom, the casing jambs are braced into spacers with a beam that has a groove on the end sides that matches the size of the protrusions in the upper and lower parts of the side posts (jambs).

If the timber used to construct the frame is sufficiently thick, its design is very strong, allowing the walls adjacent to the opening to be kept from moving the logs.

The pigtail should not be attached to logs. It must be able to move in the doorway.

A door frame with a door is mounted in the frame.

The figure below shows the casing mounting assembly in its upper part:

The numbers in the figures indicate:

5 – groove marking

7 – box strapping

8 – tenon on the ends of the logs (ridge)

Installation internal doors in the bathhouse

Installation of doors in interior spaces baths are no different from installing an entrance door in a log house.

The openings are also marked, surrounded by a casing (frame), into which the door frame with the door is then mounted.

The choice of internal doors is now very large and you can choose not only wooden ones panel doors but also beautiful modern doors made of special glass.

Now you know how to make doors in a bathhouse. In the following articles we will learn how to install a door in a brick wall.

How to install a door in a log house

A log house is the most common option for constructing a suburban building in middle and high latitudes. This is due to the characteristics of the material, which has a uniquely low thermal conductivity and provides warmth and a healthy oxygen-rich atmosphere even in the most severe winters. A log house is alive, “breathes”, changes in accordance with the seasons, and, despite the abundance of building materials on the market, only wood can create such a level of comfort and coziness.

Features of doorways in a log house

However, precisely because of the ability of wood to change, equipping a log house with doors and windows is not an easy task. Modern designsdoor block, metal-plastic window, require rigid fixation and tight fit of the elements to the slopes of the walls. But it is in the log house that the walls show serious shrinkage - up to 1 cm per year, which does not allow the use of conventional installation methods.

Exactly the same difficulties are faced when it is necessary to install doors to a bathhouse. However, as a rule, a wooden door block is installed in a bathhouse extension, made from the same wood that was used for construction, and this greatly simplifies the task. The entrance door to a residential log house requires sufficient strength and reliability that the panel wooden door cannot provide.

The problem is solved with the help of a casing box - a structure made of thick wooden planks taking into account the possibility of vertical displacement. This method ensures, on the one hand, a fairly tight fastening, and on the other, thanks to the tolerance created, it prevents deformation and damage to products under the influence of the weight of the log house.

In any case, install the door in log house it is possible only a year after its construction, when the most active stage of shrinkage is completed.

How to insert casing

The most common are three methods of casing assembly. The choice depends on the financial capabilities or the amount of time of the owner who is ready to install the door with his own hands.

Casing box with an end tenon - installation of the casing is carried out in a ready-made doorway on site; there is no need to fasten the structure in advance. The width of the board should be equal to the depth of the opening.

  1. It is understood that the construction of the opening was carried out with the expectation of using a tenon casing - its width should take into account the presence of a tenon. The latter is cut along both vertical slopes.
  2. A groove is made in the side casing posts that corresponds to the dimensions of the tenon.
  3. The tenon is covered with an inter-crown seal, then a side board is attached to it,
  4. a horizontal jumper is installed, and then a second side board. The crossbar serves as a spacer for the sidewalls. There is a gap of at least 5–7 cm between the top crossbar and the frame for the wall to shrink.

Casing on a embedded beam - involves installation on the so-called sliding beams. For the latter, bars with a cross section of 5*5 cm are used.

  1. A vertical groove is made in the slopes of the opening according to the dimensions of the board.
  2. The bars are installed. It is recommended to first place it in the groove thermal insulation material, for example - tow.
  3. The assembled casing frame should be inserted between the sliding bars and attached to them using self-tapping screws.
  4. The horizontal crossbar, as in the previous case, should be located at a distance of 5–6 cm from the horizontal lintel of the opening. The photo shows a casing box.

Installation on bars - this method is used to save money. It differs from the above in the absence of casing; the door is mounted directly on the sliding bars. A technical gap of 5–6 cm is maintained between the door frame and the lintel of the opening. The method is recommended for small buildings, for example, bathhouses or one-story log houses. For large buildings, it is recommended to use the first two.

How to frame a door

Installation is carried out in the usual way, but the fastenings are made not into the walls of the house, but into the boards of the casing.

  1. First, the door frame is installed without the leaf - or with it, if we're talking about about metal entrance doors.
  2. Using a building level, the position of the vertical and horizontal posts is leveled. The position is adjusted using wooden wedges placed in the gap between the frame posts and the casing.
  3. When the verticality of the frame is achieved, the door frame is secured with anchors.
  4. Then you should hang the canvas. If necessary, the gaps between the casing and the frame are foamed.

How to make a door in a log house?

Like 2 fingers on the asphalt.

Using a level, ruler, plumb line and pencil, mark the door opening. The size of the opening according to the size of the door casing is + 2 cm horizontally, and + 6 cm (in general, this depends on the thickness of the casing, let’s take it as 50 mm) vertically. (it’s easier to mark directly along the casing, applying it correctly.

Then, using the tip of a chainsaw, we carefully cut along the vertical cut line. Just be very careful, so as not to get hit in the forehead by a bounced tire. Just in case, we put on a protective mask and helmet, and also remove the head and other parts of the body (except the hands) from the cutting plane.

We cut through the full thickness of the wall and then everything goes easily - the entire cut is from top to bottom. Then the second vertical one.

Then we make several slits on the top and bottom logs until the horizontal markings are made. We cut down the buns with an ax. We trim the planes.

Using a level, ruler, plumb line and pencil, mark a groove for the tenon of the trim at the ends of the new opening. The width of the groove along the width of the tenon is +0.5 cm. We take a circular saw and cut along the markings to the depth of the tenon (without the plus, we already have it embedded in the width of the opening). We cut out a groove with a chisel.

We try on the sides of the casing, if everything fits, then we begin to install the door.

Retreat. Our casing has the following form: four boards 50 mm thick and along the width of the opening, at the corners, are assembled into a dovetail in such a way that the vertical board is inserted into the horizontal one from above (and not from the side!). A spike is fixed in the middle of the vertical posts (let it be 50x50 mm).

Installation. We lay the tow evenly on the bottom log, and lay the casing board on top of it. We wrap the tenon of the vertical post with tow, carefully and responsibly, the tenon can no longer be caulked. Then we insert it into the dovetail and groove at the same time from above. We set it up using a pry bar and fit it into the groove using a sledgehammer. Despite the fact that we made a gap, we carefully wrapped everything with tow and everything should fit tightly.

Then the second rack. Then we place the top board on top (we made a 6cm gap there for this) and place it on dovetails vertical racks. After this we were left with a large gap above the casing. We take a board 2 cm smaller than this gap, put tow, put the board on top, and seal the remaining gap on top. We also caulk all the cracks between the frame and the casing. A correctly installed casing does not require additional fastening; you can secure the bottom board to the log with a pair of self-tapping screws.
