Previously, the countertop in the kitchen was a product, the installation of which was carried out at the factory: it was made separately for each lower cabinet. Today it is solid, so there are more and more questions about how to properly attach it with your own hands?

Types of countertops

They are divided into types:

  • Laminated;
  • Wooden;
  • metal;
  • Stone.

Laminated

The countertop in this type of kitchen is a chipboard tile (Wood - particle board) or MDF (Fine - dispersion fraction), on which a high-strength laminate is installed by gluing.

The main advantages of the presented product are a wide color choice, easy care, low price.

But there are some drawbacks here: laminated surfaces do not withstand contact with hot dishes, piercing and cutting objects. The result of this interaction is the formation of both large and small scratches.

Wooden

Tabletops made of wood have gained their popularity for a long time. But they have a lot of disadvantages:

  • Cuts and scratches quickly form on the surface;
  • exposed to moisture;
  • Do not place hot dishes on a wooden surface.

Still, it would be a plus if wooden table top harmonizes with the interior of the kitchen and its accessories: for example, with an apron embroidered independently according to a pattern.

  • cuts;
  • scratches;
  • high temperature.

  2. The product should be transported with extreme care so as not to damage the structure, as it is very fragile;
  3. It is necessary to move the countertop together, otherwise additional folds may form in weak places. Pay special attention to the measurement process, and not only the product itself, but also the cutouts in it, otherwise you will be forced to order a new one;
  4. Smooth surfaces with a glossy sheen are particularly fragile. This must be taken into account when installing and transporting the countertop.

This is usually done with glue or screws.

  1. Apply glue to the baseboard;
  2. Attach it exactly to the gap between the countertop and the wall;
  3. Connect the skirting boards to each other using a corner or invisible glue;

  2. The new fixture must have dimensions exactly corresponding to the dimensions of the old countertop;
  3. Cut off everything superfluous, and close the edges with end strips;
  4. The new product must evenly and accurately rest on all elements of the kitchen set, so they must be level;
  5. Cut out all holes with a jigsaw. Seal the edge to protect against sudden water penetration and further swelling of the chipboard tabletop.

Summing up

Installation process kitchen worktop- not such a difficult task. But prerequisite for the qualitative completion of the work is the observance of all the above recommendations and conditions.

All installation work can be carried out independently, since no special experience or knowledge is required here.

What is important for the hostess in the kitchen? Of course, the location of furniture and sockets, the presence of household appliances and small utensils for cooking, convenient and functional washing. And it is also very important how the main workplace- cutting table top. This is where the importance of it comes from. correct selection and installations. Installing countertops in the kitchen can be done in two ways: with the help of third-party craftsmen and on your own.

Set yourself or ask others?

No one will argue that the process of installing countertops is very responsible. And there are cases in which it is simply necessary to resort to outside help:

  • of course, if the owner does not have any repair skills at all (after all, installing a countertop is not one of the most simple species works);
  • if the installation of the countertop was included in the total order of kitchen furniture;
  • if the installation of the countertop was included in its price;
  • if the countertop is made of expensive, fragile, difficult-to-process materials: triplex, tempered glass, marble, cast stone, etc. (it is very easy to spoil the product, and its cost can go off scale).

However, in most cases, anyone can install the countertop on their own. House master if everything is in order with his hands and head. Especially if it is made of ordinary chipboard / MDF.

The decision is made - we put the countertop on our own

If new kitchen furniture was bought, even a child can find out how to fix the countertop in the kitchen, since it already has the right dimensions and is screwed with a few self-tapping screws into the already prepared holes in the planks that fasten the sides of the kitchen cabinet intended for this. Of course, this approach gives a somewhat simplified, without "frills" result: the owner, most likely, will not "bother" with strengthening and protecting the countertops on the sides, installing decorative plinth or even the simplest coating with silicone, which gives a visual and anti-gap effect.

If you need to replace a countertop that is already slightly “battered” or completely out of order, for example, due to the fact that something heavy was dropped on it, then you have to roll up your sleeves. The installation technology can be peeped on the Internet, and not so many tools are required, and no exotic devices are expected on the list. The owner will need:

  • screwdriver set;
  • pencil, square, ruler, tape measure;
  • hammer, chisel;
  • electric drill, jigsaw;
  • screwdriver (it can be successfully replaced with a drill);
  • level;
  • gun for silicone sealant;
  • self-tapping screws of different calibers, skirting (plinth), aluminum nut.

The dismantling of the old countertop must be done very carefully, especially if it is planted on silicone, since we need everything else safe and sound. If necessary, you can help the old countertop leave its place with a chisel and a hammer. After the overthrow of the "old woman" is over, you can proceed directly to the installation of a new one. Installing countertops in the kitchen will take place in several stages.

1) First you need to decide whether you need to make a hole in the countertop for the sink or hob. If such a need exists, then this, of course, is done before the actual installation of the countertop begins. A template from the cardboard packaging of the product (sink, hob) is applied to the countertop, circled with a pencil, then a hole is drilled with a drill and cut out with a jigsaw around the perimeter. The cut edges are treated with silicone.

3) The next step will be cutting the countertop along the edges and processing the slices. If this is not required (the tabletop originally had the right dimensions), then it's time to strengthen the edges of the tabletop. This is done using a metal strip (corner, threshold, etc.). If the protection is included - excellent, otherwise it will have to be purchased separately. It is simply screwed with screws to the side ends of the countertop. Such an overlay will protect the MDF from swelling due to exposure to moisture and combustion from fire (which often happens if the hostess puts a large pot on the stove and makes a big fire).

4) Now it is already possible to try on and fix the countertop directly “in place”. There is a nuance here - you still need to put the plinth on the wall. There are a lot of options, skirting boards are very different. They can be plastic, stone, or the same material as the countertop. They are glued or screwed to the countertop. All this, in any case, does not hurt to properly treat with silicone sealant.

5) The final chord will be the installation of a sink or hob, with the connection of all necessary communications.

The nuances of installing countertops in the kitchen

How to put the countertop in the kitchen? During installation, you need to remember that the countertop must not only be leveled in its place, but also have the same level with the surface of the rest of the cabinets. This procedure is carried out using the legs of the cabinets, which are twisted to achieve the desired effect. If the legs of the furniture are missing, then plastic wedges and spacers should be used.

When cutting countertops, craftsmen use masking tape. It is glued to the countertop, which will help to avoid chips when cutting. The cut can be processed with a large file, then with sandpaper. A final silicone coating is required.

Particularly daring home craftsmen can try to make a concrete countertop. This is not a very easy task. It is not enough just to pour it correctly, it still needs to be polished correctly. It is better to entrust such work to professionals. But after the completion concrete countertop the result will exceed all expectations.

Otherwise, as you can understand, installing a kitchen worktop is a simple, but rather painstaking process, which must be approached with great responsibility. If you do everything slowly, carefully taking measurements and filigree cutting out the necessary holes, everything will go like clockwork. Whatever it was, and the expression "if you want it done well - do it yourself" has not yet been canceled.

When purchasing a kitchen in a store, you will definitely face the question of who will install it? There are two answers: the first is hired workers from the store, the second is their own on their own. And remembering the saying “if you want to do it well, then do it yourself”, it turns out that it is better to take the initiative into your own hands. Our article will help you solve this problem.

Installation of a kitchen set

There is nothing difficult in the assembly and installation of kitchen cabinets, for each product there is detailed instructions where everything is described in detail. However, before we get started, let's pick up all essential tool with which the work will be carried out.

Tool

  • A puncher will be required for hanging cabinets if you have concrete walls.
  • Drill suitable for brick walls. It can also be used instead of a screwdriver.
  • Screwdriver - option for wooden houses. It alone is enough to assemble all the kitchen cabinets and screw the screws into the wooden walls.
  • Roulette and construction square. Without measuring instruments no repairs can be done.
  • Building level.
  • You will need a jigsaw for cutouts in the countertop under the sink and hob.

  • Hammer or mallet.

This is the most basic tool, without which neither the assembly nor the process of installing a kitchen set will work.

Auxiliary materials

Another section that you need to study before starting work, it lists all the additional materials that will be required during the installation of the headset.

  • silicone sealant. For convenience, it is purchased with a special gun. It is necessary for processing the end of the countertop, in places of cutouts under the sink.

  • Cross-sectional ties. They fix two cabinets together much more reliably than ordinary self-tapping screws.
  • Silicone bumpers for doors. Allow to reduce the amount of noise when the door contacts the cabinet.
  • Self-adhesive plugs. With their help, it is easy to hide the heads of self-tapping screws and bolts on the front parts.

Note! The price of all the above materials fluctuates around 5 rubles apiece, except for the sealant. Therefore, saving, in this case, is meaningless, and functionality is lost.

Assembling the headset

Specialists install kitchen cabinets if desired, someone begins to hang the upper cabinets, it is easier for someone to install the base. But this is already a personal preference of everyone, so you should not focus on someone. The main thing is to start.

Lower (base) cabinets

  • Distribute the legs as close to the corners as possible. The load will be on these parts.
  • Hang doors in last moment, initially - collect all the cases.
  • Fix all the cabinets among themselves and set them in level.

Advice! If you started with the lower cabinets, then it is best to install the countertop after installing the upper cabinets. So you protect yourself from unnecessary defects and accidental damage.

Upper (top) cabinets

  • It is advisable to mount on special suspensions that are attached to a metal strip. Such cabinets are easier to hang and remove.
  • Install doors and removable shelves only after the cabinet is securely fastened to the wall.
  • The minimum distance between the worktop and the bottom of the wall cabinets is 550 mm.

However, you can mount as you like, it all depends on your height. The only thing worth paying attention to is the cabinet above the hob or stove - a very high temperature will adversely affect its condition.

But, this is just about assembling the headset, but there is another important question, how is the countertop attached in the kitchen?

Material selection

Of course, the choice of materials for the countertop is not abundant, however, even three options can confuse and make you think.

plastic table top

What is plastic? These are several layers of paper that are glued together. The thickness of such a product rarely exceeds 1 mm, mainly for kitchens it is used from 0.6 mm.

Note! If you have opted for plastic product, be careful - there is a surface with a thickness of 0.3 mm, which is considered the most fragile and "delicate".

The basis of y is the usual chipboard: cheap and short-lived. But that was a few years ago, today consumers prefer moisture-resistant chipboard or MDF. They are slightly more expensive, but more reliable in operation.

Positive traits:

  • Easily installed. This does not require any special tools.
  • Suitable for work with a jigsaw: easy to cut under the sink.
  • Low cost.

Negative features:

  • Can be easily damaged. The surface is afraid of various cuts, contacts with heavy and sharp objects.
  • Chips and cracks are not repaired.
  • Not resistant to high temperatures.

Let's look at fixing the countertop to the kitchen set in more detail.

Countertop installation

  • Before starting installation, unpack the countertop and inspect it for chips and cracks.
  • If everything is clean, then the next step is to check the level of the lower cabinets. It must be set correctly.
  • Holes are drilled in special screeds located in each cabinet under the very top.
  • Putting the countertop on the cabinets, mark, if necessary, where the sink and hob will be located. Not yet to be fixed.
  • Take a jigsaw in your hands and cut holes so that neither the cabinets nor the countertop are damaged.
  • Treat the sawn ends with sealant, and let it dry for 20-30 minutes.
  • Align the tabletop as needed.
  • Screw the screws through the ties in the cabinets.

Self-tapping screws are screwed in four pieces per pedestal: two are located on the front tie, two on the back

Note! If the base of your kitchen set is level and the countertop itself is crooked, just press down firmly and screw in the screw. Chipboard products easily bend due to improper storage or ambient temperature.

Acrylic table top

Positive properties:

  • Reliable and durable. Any chip or crack is repaired with a grinding tool.
  • Not afraid of temperature extremes and high humidity.
  • The widest selection of shades.

Cons of acrylic products:

  • At home, it cannot be processed; this requires a special tool.

  • Overpriced.

Installing an acrylic countertop

Since acrylic does not stick at home with your own hands, for this you will need to contact a furniture organization and call a measurer.

After that, the specialist creates a project on which he outlines the kitchen set and the location of electrical appliances and sinks. It also indicates where wooden blocks, through which, in fact, fastening is carried out.

Note! If you have L-shaped kitchen, then you should also order the installation of the countertop in the organization. This is due to the fact that it will be necessary to glue and grind the surface, and for this you need a tool.

  • Pre-drill the ties in the places where the wooden blocks will be located at the acrylic countertop.
  • Put ready product the way it should lie, according to the project.
  • Screw in the screws.

Quartz countertop

Of the shortcomings, only a lot of weight and price can be identified, but when you know it positive traits, then it immediately becomes clear why such a cost:

  • Impossible to damage. The surface of the material has hardness natural stone, so an accidental blow of a knife or pan will not leave a trace.
  • Hot pans are also not dangerous.
  • The color is identical to natural materials.

Installation of a quartz countertop

This section is similar to the installation of an acrylic countertop, because the manufacturing technology for these materials is similar. Therefore, in the case of an indirect kitchen, you should contact specialists who will glue the surfaces.

Bar counter installation

Often, the countertop in the kitchen is used as a bar counter, on which, usually, they have breakfast, and, in fact, dine.

This requires a special mount that will securely fix the product.

  • AT furniture store you should purchase steel pipe 50 mm in diameter. It is better to ask that you cut it off immediately to size, then the edges will be smooth, without burrs.
  • You will also need fixing elements for the bar counter. One will be attached to the countertop, the second to the floor.

Note! If the width of the table is not more than 400 mm, then one leg is enough. If more than 400mm, please purchase 2 sets.

Fastening a kitchen worktop as a bar counter is as follows:

  • First of all, fasteners are fixed to the countertop.

  • Pipes are inserted into them and set according to the level.
  • The lower mounts are marked on the floor.
  • The floor is drilled if it is not wooden, and fasteners are fixed with the help of dowel-nails.

Workflow features

It may seem to you that it is quite easy to install a countertop, but, nevertheless, you should not take this issue so lightly.

  • If you install the tabletop on furniture corners, you should do it like this: step back 1-2 mm from the top edge of the cabinet and mark the center of the corner. After, fix the corner with a self-tapping screw. 4 corners are enough for one meter.
  • For chipboard, be sure to use kitchen sealant, otherwise after a few weeks of use, the plastic surface (near the sink) may swell.
  • It is advisable to set the kitchen set according to the level. Try to avoid sagging wood countertops.
  • When choosing hardware - stop at stainless materials, this will help extend the life of the headset as a whole.

  1. Knowledge technological process installation.
  2. Ability and accumulated knowledge and skills to work with any kind of wood, chipboard, veneer, MDF.
  3. Experience with materials from stone, marble, polished concrete, stone.

What are countertops

Today, metal materials are increasingly preferred. They are more reliable in operation, easy to clean. Their surfaces are not afraid of temperature changes and, finally, they are relatively inexpensive, which will significantly save the budget. Wooden modifications were traditionally used in the 90s, and have proven themselves not in the best way. Wood countertops are afraid of hot temperatures, do not accept prolonged contact with moisture (rock swells) and are very susceptible to sharp objects (leave scratches, notches), soon such a countertop loses its appearance and becomes unusable. The next category includes countertops with laminated coating made of chipboard, fiberboard. This coating provides the surface with moisture resistance and strength.

The color scheme of such a product is diverse, choose suitable option on desired color kitchen is not difficult. Laminate countertops are also affordable and less prone to wear and tear. True, these surfaces are highly susceptible to hot and sharp objects, and therefore you need to take care of them carefully. There are also stone countertops, marble also belongs to this category. Surfaces made of these materials are not afraid of hot, sharp objects and impacts. These countertops look elegant and perfectly decorate the room. But, despite all these delights, their price sometimes reaches tens of thousands of rubles, and this is not affordable for everyone. Kitchen comfort depends not only on which countertop is chosen, but also how it is installed.

Installation preparation, installation tools

Tools needed to install the countertop: electric jigsaw, tape measure, square, level, hammer, screwdriver.

Before starting installation, you need to determine the size of the countertop. It depends on the length and width of the kitchen set, sink parameters, gas stove. The distance from the front edge of the headset to the cutout for the sink, then to the cutout for the gas stove, the cutout values (length, width) are taken into account. To process the countertop from the front side, it is necessary to install an edge tape, heating it in front of this iron. Set the countertop to the headset close to the wall and draw cutouts for the sink and gas stove with a pencil. This procedure is complicated and requires care so that the edge fits exactly along the edge of the cut. The holes for the sink and stove are cut out with a jigsaw, the saw cuts should be treated with a sealant. For installation, you need the appropriate tools:

  • Screwdriver Set;
  • jigsaw;
  • screwdriver or ordinary drill;
  • a hammer;
  • chisel;
  • ruler, pencil;
  • square;
  • roulette;
  • level;
  • self-tapping screws.

Installation step by step

  1. We make measurements of the countertop, taking into account the parameters of the kitchen set, panel, attaching the sheet to the place where it will be installed. Outline the contours and places of cutouts for the sink and gas stove. Cut unnecessary places with a fine-toothed hacksaw for wood or metal and cut holes for the sink and stove with an electric jigsaw. Be sure to take into account all the features of the wall (roughness, protrusions). If they are present, cuts and notches are pre-cut. The holes for the sink and stove should be glued with aluminum reflective tape.
  2. When the countertop right size, processing end edges silicone adhesive(sealant), for its tight fit and hiding holes. Next, you need to fix the bar with small screws. Carefully remove the remnants of the sealant with white spirit or acetone.
  3. We glue the edges of the tabletop with edging tape, heating the iron. After the tape has dried, we polish the edges of the surface. In order for the tape to sit correctly, you need to stick it carefully, smoothing every centimeter.
  4. The next step is to adjust the headset itself. The legs of the cabinets are adjustable building level. If there is a problem in adjusting due to uneven floors, it makes sense to put pieces of dense plastic, wood or thick rubber under the legs.
  5. We fill the upper rear edges of the cabinets with silicone, we also apply sealant to the back ends of the countertops. We attach corners under the sink, they can be made of metal or plastic.
  6. The final step is quite difficult. We lay the countertop on the cabinets very carefully so that its location is accurate and even, pressing it firmly against the wall. Make sure that all gaps from the wall are hidden. It is necessary to press it firmly against the wall so that the sealant is in close contact with the countertop and wall. And now you can start installation. We fix the countertop to the kitchen set with self-tapping screws. Fastening is made in ready-made holes under the countertop, sink and gas stove. Pay special attention to the installation of the sink and hob. After fastening, it is advisable to install a decorated plinth along the edge of the wall and countertops - this will give the headset a neater look. After installation, the countertop is ready for use. Please note that when installing a corner tabletop, it is necessary to hide the seams of the connection with an aluminum profile.
