Pattern of a skirt for ballroom dancing. Ballroom dance skirts

I welcome all readers of the blog site. Let's continue to expand the skirt patterns section, and all the styles, and today I got to the dance skirt pattern. Here I will show five dance skirt patterns.

  • Here is the simplest pattern: in fact, just a rectangle of fabric, in the style of a scarf, which is pinned on the hips with a decorative pin or brooch, decorated with braid or fringe along the edges.

  • The next model of the dance skirt pattern: with an asymmetrical hem line, which is suitable for brave girls. This is a very short skirt, which is best sewn from leather or suede, and the bottom is trimmed with braid with fringe to match the material from which the skirt itself is made.

  • Another pattern for a dance skirt: take a triangle with a base that is equal to the volume of the hips plus eight centimeters for the tie. The height of the triangle is approximately 10 cm. From the top we set aside 30 cm, and then another 40. From each of the new points, lay straight lines, as in the figure. Between the layers and below we sew a fringed braid.

  • We take a measurement of the circumference of our waist, build a semicircle, a tie on top, and finish the edges with either a hem or a zigzag.

For any activity, the child will need special clothing. A dancing skirt for a girl creates the necessary mood and emphasizes grace and femininity. If a girl decides to attend a dance studio, then her mother will have to find a stylish and comfortable skirt for dancing.

Peculiarities

For dancing, the girl will need special clothes. Each team has its own requirements for choosing a uniform, but there are also general rules:

  • the skirt should be comfortable, not restrict movement and allow you to perform the most complex dance elements;
  • the suit for training should not have complex decor, it can serve as a hindrance during training;
  • the cut of the skirt must correspond to the style of costumes that are typical for this type of dance.

A correctly chosen skirt will not only help you rehearse your dance, but will also create the necessary mood.

Varieties

Skirts for dance classes may vary depending on the type of dance:

  • For ballroom dancing you need to have two different skirts. One, short with a lot of frills and flounces, for Latin American dances, the second - for standard, longer and more fluffy;

  • for sports dancing, short and fluffy skirts are sewn; they can be single-layered or have several layers;

  • For oriental dances, wide skirts that flow downwards are required; most often they are made of chiffon or other transparent fabrics. For rehearsals and classes, use shortened versions or a wide belt with decor, which is tied on the side;

  • puffy tutu skirts are made from several layers of tulle.

When choosing a specific model, it is necessary to take into account not only the appearance of the skirt. It is important to choose a skirt that would be comfortable for your child to exercise in.

Materials

Skirts for training sessions are made from various materials. Their choice is dictated by the specific style of the suit. Light and fluffy skirts are made from tulle, chiffon and organza. For sports dancing, it is preferable to use uniforms made of elastic fabrics, and for long floor-length skirts, various types of silk and satin are suitable.

It is better if the skirt for classes is made of natural or high-quality synthetic “breathable” fabrics. During intense activities, the child sweats a lot, and clothing should help remove natural moisture from the body.

Colors

Most often, training skirts are made from black or white fabrics, but suits are also available in other colors. Each studio sets its own rules regarding the style, length and color of the skirt.

The uniform the girl wears during rehearsals often gets washed out, so bright colors in skirts are not very practical. After several washes they may fade and become faded.

How and with what to wear

During rehearsals, skirts are worn over training swimsuits or suits. They provide freedom of movement, whereas a skirt should give a more feminine look.

With a dance leotard

Dance leotards form the basis of training costumes for young dancers. The most common is the model with long sleeves and a deep cutout at the back.

A tight-fitting leotard and a full skirt are the most attractive type of dance training uniform.

A person involved in dancing knows firsthand that for a good performance you need bright and comfortable clothes. To do this, you need to understand such concepts as dance skirts and their features. It doesn’t matter what style a person is into: oriental dancing, Latin, ballroom - everyone will need such clothes.

Peculiarities

There is a separate and special world of fashion on the parquet floor. Some may think that there is nothing difficult in choosing a dress, because almost all suits are similar to each other. But this is far from true. Over time, dance has become a real art in which people follow certain rules not only in the technique of movements, but also in the choice of costume.

Today, choosing a skirt for dancing requires a lot of effort. Fashion changes not only on the world catwalk, but also on the floor. When choosing, you need to take into account the length, silhouette, and color scheme of the outfit. The number of decorative stones and rhinestones on a suit is of no small importance. All these features need to be known.

Species

There are several basic types of skirts that suit certain styles of dance. The differences between all options are in length, shape and material used for sewing.

Clothes for oriental dances are presented in several versions. Based on the characteristics of the girl’s figure, you can choose a suitable model. A circle skirt is suitable for slender girls, as during the dance the outfit looks quite bright and attractive. For those with curvy figures, the fish look would be the ideal solution. The skirt emphasizes the movements during belly dancing.

European dance styles require long and chic outfits, complemented by many details. In the set, the girl should feel light, so heavy materials are not used for sewing. In Indian styles, external design plays an important role.

Training

Training versions are different from performance models. Skirts are simpler and shorter; elastic materials are used for tailoring. Clothes allow you to perform various movements without creating discomfort while dancing.

With strings

These options are great for choreography that requires stretching or other physical exercise. The advantage of skirts is ease during movements. Basically, a thing with ties on the side is used for Latin and ballroom dancing.

For belly dancing

These models were mentioned above, but now you need to familiarize yourself with the features of each. The main types include:

  • circle skirt. It is long, and lightweight fabrics are used for sewing;
  • straight skirt. Suitable for those with curvy figures, it is advisable to choose options with a high slit.

These models are used specifically for belly dancing, as the movements should look graceful and convey the beauty and femininity of the girl. Thanks to them you can achieve the desired effect.

Spanish

Given the fiery rhythm, the dance requires “obeying” certain rules. Clothes should not create discomfort; the girl needs to move freely. Basically, the skirts are long, bright, and become wider towards the bottom. Seductive slits and ruffles also make a difference.

For standard

In this case, the simplest options are used, which allow the girl to perform even complex movements. The models can be used as outfits for performances in different styles of dance. The length of the skirts may vary, it all depends on the rhythm and complexity of the movements. Most often these are not too short models, knee-length.

Gypsy

The brightness and fluffiness of the gypsy-looking skirts is simply amazing and attracts the viewer’s attention in the first minute of the dance. Clothes are always distinguished by rich colors and various decorations. Sometimes skirts consist of several layers, not always of the same color.

Classical

Such models are not designed for too rhythmic movements, but rather for smooth and neat ones. The main thing is comfort and convenience while dancing, so when choosing, the main emphasis is on these qualities. The design is not particularly bright; the models look restrained but attractive.

With smell

These models are used for fiery dances, mainly with a fast tempo. A good option for performing Latin American style, where the legs should move freely and move from side to side.

Fish skirt

The clothes are used for belly dancing. It is worth noting that today this option has become widespread in many forms, so there are different designs and tailoring of the outfit. Basically, bright materials and stones are used to create. This creates a good and winning effect while dancing.

In this article we will briefly look at how to sew a skirt for oriental, ballroom, and flamenco dances. Let's take a closer look at the last option. First, some general recommendations. For flamenco dancing, the basis of the obki pattern is a wide cut that emphasizes the hips, and, of course, the skirt should be long. However, for beginner dancers the length can be made to mid-calf. Whatever is longer and more complex will be needed later.

Flamenco dance skirts can be sewn in several ways. For example, typed with frills. Perhaps this is the simplest and most uncomplicated cut. This skirt is assembled from various strips of fabric, the width of which is approximately 18-20 cm. For the belt, you can take the main material of the product or knitwear. Whatever is more convenient for you. The basic principle of this skirt is that the length after the belt or yoke will be equal to 1.5 times the length of the waist circumference. Each subsequent pattern is sewn according to the principle of the previous one. This product takes approximately 2-3 meters of fabric (with a width of 1.5 meters) without any additional details.

Next, we’ll look at how to sew a skirt for You need to cut it out of a thick one, preferably a base for a belt, approximately 15-17 cm wide. Cut a satin belt of the same size. Embroider it with multi-colored beads in any pattern of your choice. Remember that the belt cannot be too narrow, it should fit tightly but evenly around the hips. It also cannot be too wide so as not to cover the stomach.

To do this, take a measuring tape and measure your waist circumference. We add plus 1 cm to the belt. From chiffon and satin fabric we cut out 2 parts for our circle skirt, the length of which should be 16 cm below the knee. Then we combine the chiffon and satin parts, sew them together (chiffon inside out and satin on the front side). The seams will be placed inward. We sew fringe to the edges of our product and make 2 cuts in the right places to the middle of the thigh. This skirt has a certain style. The fabric, as you already understood, is selected in two types, and the belt must be hemmed onto a dense base.

In conclusion, let's look at how to sew a skirt for ballroom dancing. To do this you will need a pattern, a sewing machine and accessories. The cut of this skirt is somewhat similar to a flamenco skirt. Only it consists of several layers. For the bottom layer it is better to choose opaque fabrics, and for the top layer, on the contrary, lighter and airier ones.
You will need to take two measurements: hip circumference and the length of the skirt itself. We cut the lower satin part very simply. A circle is cut out with a hole in the middle. The formulas for calculating the radius of the skirt look like this:

R=S*hip circumference (lower)
R=S2*hip circumference (upper)
Where: S is a constant coefficient, which is equal to S=0.1593, and S2=0.0797.

You need to cut two “suns” together. In this case, the fabric should be folded in 4 layers. There is no need to move the cut pieces, just carefully secure them with pins. You will get a skirt in two layers.

We looked at just a few ways to sew a skirt for certain types of dance. What happens next is up to you. The lower part of the costume is ready, it's time to hit the floor!

In addition to a gymnastics leotard, my daughter sometimes needs a skirt to practice dancing. And this is what I got. Making such a skirt is not at all difficult. The length of my skirt is 30 cm.

circle skirt with elastic for dancing

Materials:

knitwear oil 0.4 m (R2 indicator below), threads, rubber for a belt 2 cm wide.

Oil knitwear is very convenient to use for a circle skirt, since, firstly, it flows well, and secondly, it does not require processing of cuts (accordingly, sewing a skirt from it is very simple and quick).

How to sew a circle skirt with elastic:

The cut of the circle skirt is a full circle with a hole in the middle.

The sun skirt can be cut from one, two or four parts. The main thing is that all of them together make a complete circle. I cut the skirt from one piece. In this case, fewer seams have to be made (although the fabric consumption is somewhat greater, but for a short children's skirt this is not a fundamental difference).

circle skirt, pattern

You can build a pattern on paper, or you can draw it with chalk directly on the fabric. Fold the fabric 4 times (like a handkerchief). From the top of the corner (the point where all the folds meet, but there are no cuts), draw an arc of radius R1, then radius R2.

R1 = From / (2 * pi) (pi = 3.14)

Since in children the hip circumference differs slightly from the waist circumference (O), stretching the fabric along the bias is enough to put the skirt on over the hips.

Cut a circle with a hole in the center.

Cut the rubber to a length that fits snugly at the waist + seam allowance. Sew a rubber belt.

While stretching the rubber belt, sew it with a zigzag stitch (or knit stitch) to the skirt.

The circle skirt with elastic for dancing is ready.
