Materials for plastic slopes. Window slopes made of PVC panels: the experience of a Homius reader

Installation plastic windows this is not always accompanied by finishing of the slopes by representatives of the window company. However, this is understandable - if you do it wisely, the process may take several days. So it will be much better if you do this work yourself. Don't know how to properly make slopes on windows? No problem, let's learn together.

How to choose material for window slopes - looking for options

The functions of window slopes are reduced to protecting the window opening from moisture, as well as providing insulation and noise reduction. Without slopes even the most best windows will not be able to perform their functions efficiently; their absence may lead to serious problems in the future. Therefore, when choosing windows, think in advance about how to properly make slopes and what material to choose for this.

The general requirements are:

  • Durability and reliability;
  • Resistance to weather conditions, typical for your region;
  • Sealing and environmental friendliness;
  • Thermal insulation and sound insulation of premises;
  • Ease of cleaning.

Wood finishing is a very effective way that goes well with wooden windows. However, such products require considerable costs and very careful care. The question of how to properly make slopes on wooden windows should only be dealt with by specialists, but it’s worth it - this is an elite slope covering.

Plastic slopes have become widespread along with plastic windows. In many ways this is the most best option: You get a neat, clean surface that is quick to install, easy to clean and retains heat very well. Even at frosty temperatures outside the window correct installation slopes, condensation on the elements themselves and on the adjacent section of the wall is eliminated. However, the impact of moisture on the plastic slopes themselves does not threaten them. Over time plastic parts may turn yellow - this is perhaps the only drawback of the material.

Plastering slopes - how is it done?

It is worth using this method of finishing a window opening only during overhaul when the wall covering changes. In progress cosmetic repairs It is better to change the plaster for something less easily soiled - you will definitely ruin the wallpaper. It should be noted that this method is the most time-consuming.

Before making slopes on the windows, it is necessary to clean the surface of the old coating and install beacons - wooden or metal. There are also ready-made plaster beacons that are ideal for beginners. So, the first mark is placed in close proximity to the window block, indicating a layer of plaster of at least 5 cm. Then the beacons are placed at the corners of the opening frame and leveled using a level.

For internal window slopes, dry is best suited. cement-gypsum plaster. This solution dries faster, which is important for saving time; moreover, it can be applied in a thicker layer than the same cement-sand composition.It is necessary to mix the solution construction mixer, or use a hammer drill or drill with a special attachment at low speeds.

For external slopes must be used cement mixture or a special facade putty - both materials adequately withstand the effects of moisture and other atmospheric phenomena. Before plastering, it would not hurt to carry out thermal insulation, especially if the windows are plastic - this will avoid fogging of the windows in cold seasons.

The plaster is applied in several passes - each layer requires drying. The first step is to spray - dilute the plaster with a large amount of water and spray the area to be finished with an ordinary broom soaked in the solution. This allows you to get good adhesion between the base and the plaster layer. The second layer should rid the surface of minor irregularities, no more - it is strictly forbidden to apply a thick layer of plaster.

The next layer is applied after the first has dried and primed. The final layer is applied with finishing putty, which is sanded after drying. The gaps remaining at the junction of the window block and the putty should be sealed with a special sealant that can be painted. For high-quality sealing, the joint is cut at an angle of 45° by 2-3 mm, the resulting recess is primed and after a few hours is filled with a sealing compound.

The finished surface should be primed to prevent the appearance of small cracks and prepare it for painting. Usually enamel or acrylic paint, which are applied in two layers. In total, it will take about a week to complete this set of works from the beginning until the last layer of paint dries.

How to make window slopes from plasterboard - instructions for beginners

Drywall has one essential dignity before the same plastic - it can be repaired with minor damage, returning a clean, aesthetic appearance. No special skills are required to create a slope from plasterboard. First, you need to create a frame from a galvanized profile - some window companies supply these complete with their products. In any case, a special groove must be provided in the window block, and the profile can be purchased separately.

The installation of slopes should begin no earlier than one day after installing the windows - during this time the polyurethane foam will completely polymerize, and its excess can be cut off and the spacers removed. The guide profile is screwed along the line where the drywall joins the window block using self-tapping screws.

Insulation is laid between the profiles, and then drywall is mounted to the frame. When it is installed, it is sanded and the gaps and irregularities are smoothed out with putty, and only after that they begin to treat with primer. The corners of the drywall should be protected with a galvanized metal profile, which will protect them from delamination. As with plastering, joints window frame and the finished slope is sealed with acrylic putty. It will harden in no less than 12 hours, and only after that the slopes can be painted.

Practical and inexpensive plastic slopes - great solution for the design of window openings. They are easy to wash, they do not need painting, and the service life of PVC panels is at least 10 years. Such windows are free from condensation, mold and peeling plaster and provide scope for modern technological solutions. To do the installation yourself, read step by step instructions on installing slopes, secrets of choosing materials and basic rules of work.

Cleanliness and beauty for many years

Popular myths – TOP 3 misconceptions of the customer

"Plastic? But it’s not aesthetically pleasing, not environmentally friendly and not practical!” - masters often hear. Nothing of the kind! It's time to debunk the myths regarding this finishing material:

  1. Plastic is harmful to health. It's only partly a myth. Virgin plastic does not emit toxic compounds. Unlike the same chipboard or paint and varnish materials. And here is the installation plastic slopes made from recycled materials - not best idea. After all, they can be extremely unhealthy. Therefore, when choosing panels you should pay attention to this factor.
  2. PVC slopes spoil appearance the windows look cheap. Actually smart installed panels create a harmonious, integral composition. They give the window a finished look without joints or cracks. But incorrect installation can ruin the appearance of the panels. Or choosing cheap materials with a thin layer of plastic.
  3. Plastic is not durable. PVC slopes can last 10, 15 and even 20 years without repair. While plastered ones need painting every year. But the key to a long service life of sandwich panels is their correct installation.

Plastic creates a seamless composition

Advantages and disadvantages of plastic panels - an honest review

Installation of plastic slopes has many advantages:

  1. Energy efficiency. Insulated sandwich panels significantly reduce heat loss when heating a room.
  2. Improvement performance characteristics windows In an era of fierce competition, unscrupulous manufacturers have already left the market. Therefore, low-quality products are very rare. But poor finishing of the slopes is a significant disadvantage during installation. After all weak points windows are the nodes where they connect to the wall. When installing plastic panels, the seam is additionally strengthened with polyurethane foam. Which improves characteristics such as sound insulation and heat retention.
  3. The presence of a closing circuit that prevents damage to the wallpaper. The profile for plastic not only gives a neat look to the room, but also protects the wallpaper from peeling off at the ends of the walls.
  4. Possibility of using effective sealants. It's all about adhesion! Sealants adhere better to plastic than to a plaster surface. In this case, the seam is absolutely invisible.
  5. A huge selection of colors, including wood, marble, stone.

The choice of colors is huge

The disadvantages of installing plastic slopes include the ease of scratching. Therefore, no one can cancel careful operation!

Compared to plastic, plastered slopes have a lot of disadvantages:

  • form cracks;
  • absorb moisture, becoming a breeding ground for mold;
  • the paint turns yellow and peels off;
  • The wallpaper is peeling off at the joints.

Installation stages - the ABCs of construction work

Installing plastic slopes with your own hands will take no more than 2 hours. For comparison, high-quality plastering work will take up to 3 days!

Selecting materials - how to avoid mistakes

There are two types of plastic slopes:

  • decorative;
  • sandwich panels (insulated).

Decorative slopes are necessary in following cases:

  1. For formal partitions. That is, the design of window openings located between rooms (for example, in an office).
  2. For finishing loggias. The external slopes of the balcony block cannot be insulated. Because the panels cannot be placed behind the frame. They are hindered by a quarter lined with brick (its purpose is to prevent the window from falling out).

In all other cases, it is better to choose sandwich panels. They consist of two sheets of PVC and a layer of insulation between them.

Standard thickness slope – 8 mm. But if installed carelessly, such a panel can easily be squeezed out with foam! Therefore, many craftsmen advise choosing thicker options (for example, 24 mm). This panel is difficult to cut, but it is much stronger.

Basic rules for selecting panels:

  1. Made only from virgin plastic. Such plastic slopes will not turn yellow over time, and their composition will not harm health.
  2. With a thick layer of plastic. Cheap panels with thin PVC sheets quickly become unusable. The plastic simply peels off the surface.

Window device

In addition to panels, you definitely need to buy profiles - internal (J-profile) and external (C-profile). Together they form a strong anchor lock that tightly holds the slopes.

Installing plastic slopes with your own hands will also require the availability of other materials:

  • self-tapping screws 51 mm;
  • PVC dowels;
  • wooden slats;
  • “summer” foam (2.6);
  • gypsum mixture for plaster;
  • mineral wool.

You will need the following tools:

  • drill;
  • screwdriver;
  • electric stapler;
  • spatula;
  • mounting gun with the ability to normalize and adjust foaming.

The window sill must be installed at an angle of 3–5°

Rough work - preparatory stage

To install plastic slopes with your own hands, use step-by-step instructions:

  1. The first step is to install the guides. For this, 10x40 mm wooden slats, 51 mm screws and PVC dowels are suitable.
  2. The slats must be secured around the perimeter of the window strictly parallel to the frame. Drill holes through the guides (6–12 cm).
  3. Insert dowels into the holes and tighten with self-tapping screws, drowning them to a depth of 5 mm.
  4. Strengthen the slats with summer polyurethane foam.
  5. Select a groove in the foam joint along the window frame that is 6mm deep and 8mm wide.

Fastening process and insulation - how to fix the panels

Attach the connecting internal J-profile to the slats using staples 10-14 mm long. For fastening, a step of 10-25 cm is sufficient.

Internal J-profile

Attach plastic slopes. Form installation seam from foam. To do this, apply a plastic panel and evenly fill the cavity by 15%. Then fill the cavity 70% with mineral wool. This will reduce heat loss and avoid mold.

Press the panels against the slats and secure them with brackets at an angle of 45°. This will further increase the pressure and allow the plastic to be pressed well.

Advice! To prevent the foam from falling off, you can use supports to secure it. These may be pieces of hardened foam or plastic.

The percentage of filling with cotton wool is from 30 to 70%

Clean everything up - make it beautiful

Before installing the outer profile, the walls adjacent to the window should be leveled. To do this, you need to remove the remnants of the old wallpaper and apply a quick-hardening mixture.

Then install the outer C-profile and adjust it to size. To do this, measure the profiles and file them so that the lock is at an angle of 45°.

Profile adjustment

Pressing on the profile, secure it until it clicks. Use a hacksaw to cut through both profiles at the intersection of the plastic. This way the seam will be as neat as possible. Move the corners towards each other by tapping them.

Cut it with a hacksaw

At the end, clean the room, remove all dust and debris with a brush and rag. Degrease the joints and lightly moisten them. After this, apply decorative silicone acrylic sealant.

Advice! If there's still room in the room construction work, which produce a lot of dust, it is better to postpone treatment with sealant. Since it absorbs dust and dirt before it dries completely.

The hand of a master - the secrets of a flawless installation

Every business has its own secrets. And when installing plastic slopes with your own hands, it’s useful to know them!

Setting the correct angle

The angle of rotation of the slopes has the romantic name “dawn”. Thanks to the correct arrangement of the panels, you can increase the amount of light penetrating into the room. The main rule: slopes should in no case be located at right angles. It gives the feeling of a hospital room. But you shouldn’t make the spread of the panels too wide.

The secret of mastery is to measure the angle not in degrees, but in centimeters! How to do it:

Place a square in the corner of the window.

Construction square-perpendicular

Measure the distance from extreme point(wall) to a perpendicular line.

Ideal value– 3.5 cm. This rule applies to slopes with a width of 15 to 50 cm.

Advice! Measuring in centimeters or millimeters is more convenient than using a square. Since measuring the exact angle on an object is extremely difficult.

Slope dawn measurement

The upper slope may deviate from this value upward (be more than 35 mm). But the side panels must be oriented equally.

Eye meter or laser - how to level the panel

According to regulations, when installing windows and slopes there is a tolerance of 4 mm. That is, the product can be installed with a deviation from the level. This is necessary, including for aesthetic reasons. After all, curved walls and ceilings do not go very harmoniously with the right angles of the windows.

Installing plastic slopes with your own hands, laser level can be put aside. Since here you need to focus on the window line! The upper slope must be strictly parallel to the frame. And your own eye will help you with this.

Slopes should be installed relative to the window

How to give a panel the shape of an arch - we design arched windows

PVC panels are quite elastic, which allows them to be bent at a slight angle. The guide profiles also bend well. But what if the arch has the shape of an ellipse with a small radius? Sandwich panels cannot be bent, as this will lead to their breakage. There are several ways to install plastic slopes:

  1. The flexibility of the panels can be increased by separating the inner plastic layer. The remaining material easily takes on the desired shape.
  2. You can mount composite slopes. That is, a structure consisting of several panel parts. In this case, great attention should be paid to joining and processing of seams.

Useful life hack - use slopes with maximum efficiency

What functions can conventional plastic slopes perform? Only aesthetic and thermal insulating? But no!

Socket on the slope

Why do you need a socket on the window?

IN plastic panels It is possible, and sometimes simply necessary, to install electrical points. After all, slopes are an ideal place to place sockets and switches!

Workplace often placed near a window. This way more daylight gets onto the table, which is important for vision. But often you have to work at the computer in the dark. And this requires good lighting.

The ideal solution is to install two main light switches. The first is at the entrance to the room, and the second is in the slope next to the workplace. This way it won’t be blocked by printers and monitors, and you won’t have to reach across the table to turn it off. An additional socket will allow you to always keep your phone at hand, even when it is charging.

This solution is also perfect for compact kitchens. No place to put an electric kettle or toaster? Place them on the windowsill, having previously installed sockets in the slopes! Space saving and comfort are guaranteed.

About the safety of using electric points

How safe is it to place electrical points next to a damp window?

  1. Moisture does not accumulate inside the insulated panels. Since the temperature there is the same as inside the room.
  2. Condensation that appears on the glass does not conduct current. Why? Because it does not contain salts, which are conductors of electricity.
  3. Leaving the window open when it rains also means you don't have to worry. After all, the outlet will be protected by the open flap. It is also worth remembering that rainwater does not conduct current.

Cable inside plasterboard wall

Installation process - installation tricks

How to install plastic slopes with your own hands, placing electric points in them:

Lay the power cable behind the false wall in advance, at the stage of installing the wiring. It will hang along the slope.

Plaster the false gypsum board wall and cover it with wallpaper. Install the slopes at the very end. To do this, you first need to cut them out and try them on. And then remove and apply to back surface polyurethane foam.

Preparing the slope for installation

When the foam dries, the slope needs to be tried on again. If pieces of foam prevent the panel from being pressed tightly, they must be carefully trimmed.

Removing excess foam

Cut holes in the panel for sockets or switches. Pull the wires through them. Apply a little fresh foam to the already dried one to glue the slope to the opening. Secure the panel with brackets as in the previous instructions. This is necessary so that when using the socket the panel does not bend or come off.

Install socket boxes for drywall (with “claws”). Then install switches or sockets.

Replacing old frames with modern plastic windows is half the task. The next stage, which is often forgotten, is the installation of window slopes. Proper execution and finishing of slopes plays no less important role in insulating an apartment important role, how . You can invite a craftsman to carry out the work or save a little on builders and make the slopes yourself.

Types of slopes

The complexity of finishing the slopes depends on the quality of the walls, the accuracy of the craftsmen when working with windows and the chosen material for finishing. There are only three basic methods:

  • followed by decoration (painting or wallpapering);
  • plastic framing;
  • covering .

Slopes are also made of wood - coniferous (most often pine) or valuable species (beech, oak, mahogany). This is a rather labor-intensive method that requires professional work with wood. Wooden slopes look stylish in expensive interiors, where the rest of the furnishings are also made using wood. You can complete the repair yourself if you choose a simpler material for the slopes of plastic windows.

Plastic slopes

Plastering and painting slopes

This method of processing slopes is the most economical and simple. The finished dry mixture, which is based on gypsum or cement, is mixed with water in the proportion specified by the manufacturer, after which the material is ready for use.

Pay attention!

Before applying plaster, the surface around the window is cleaned of dust, dirt, sagging or foam.

The seams of corners and slopes are widened so that the plaster adheres better to the base - brick wall. The wall is plastered first, and only then the slopes are started.

Installation of slopes

Sealing cracks

When making slopes, additionally check the tightness of the joints of the wall and window. The detected cracks are sealed with polyurethane foam, or you can use tow or felt. Fabric materials are treated with gypsum solution and fixed around the perimeter of the frame.

There should be 2-3 cm left to the side parts of the window opening - this gap will be filled with plaster. When the material has dried, work can continue. Window slopes Do it yourself, although it’s not very fast, but you can be sure of the quality of each stage of the work.

Plastering slopes - the final stage

A little solution is placed in the groove of the slope, leveled, wait until it dries and move on to the next layer. In one go, you can apply 5-7 mm of the solution, then you need to wait for the material to dry completely. Level the layers from bottom to top.

Before applying plaster top part the slope is fixed horizontal bar made of wood - its edge should be perfectly smooth. Fix the lath to the plaster or with nails, aligning the guide along.

Slopes on the windows

Advantages of plastic slopes

Installing plastic slopes will take much less time than working with plaster. This option for finishing windows will not cost much more, but there will be less dust and dirt after completing the slopes, and the process will go faster.

Plastic panels are made of the same material as the window frames. When temperature changes, slopes and frames expand equally, no excess stress is created. There is no need to paint or additionally prepare PVC panels for installation. To eliminate the “consequences” of the repair, a damp cloth is enough, and the entire installation process will take no more than 2 hours.

For slopes, plastics that are not susceptible to harmful effects solar radiation and are quite durable, resistant to scratches and impacts. Sandwich panels with top layer made of plastic, the intermediate one made of insulating material and the bottom one made of moisture-resistant PVC.

How to make slopes on windows with your own hands video:

Installation of plastic slopes

First, fragments are cut out of the panels according to the size of the slopes. The panels are fixed to the cleaned surface using “ liquid nails" A rail with a snap-on corner secures the plastic in the selected position. Instead of this design, you can use simple wooden slats, fixing them at the top and sides of the window opening. The panels are secured to the guides with a stapler.

The joints of the walls and slopes are decorated with plastic corners. Their purpose is to keep the wallpaper on the walls adjacent to the window intact. These are the parts that are most often damaged by children and pets.

When making slopes on windows with your own hands, you should follow technological nuances. It is better to select plastic panels to match the shade of the window, since they do not have to be painted. Before using the panels, the mounting tenon is cut off from them. Panels should be cut special knife or a jigsaw.

Polyurethane foam may become deformed when it hardens. To prevent this from happening and to ensure that the slopes remain level, foam with a minimum expansion coefficient is selected. The slopes need to be fixed for an additional 5-10 minutes until the foam “sets”.

Drywall slopes

Do-it-yourself slopes for plastic windows are quite easy to make from plasterboard. For work, choose a moisture-resistant material that will not be damaged by random drops of rain and condensation accumulating on the glass. Alternative option- usage regular drywall, which will additionally be covered with several layers of primer or a special protective composition.

When making plasterboard slopes, they sometimes put window unit with profiles on the sides - it will be the basis of the entire structure. Before installing the block, the profile must be fixed in the window grooves. Then the system will be more reliable and rigid, and installation will be easier.

Installation of plasterboard slopes without a window block

You can do without ready-made frames by doing everything preparatory work on one's own. In this case, you will need a profile in the shape of the letter “L” and fix it along the edges of the frame, creating a base for attaching sheets of drywall. The material is cut exactly to size; discrepancies can later be masked and corrected with plaster. An acrylic-based sealant is applied to the profile, then a sheet of drywall is inserted. The distance between the window and the slope is laid in a layer mineral wool, apply a layer of glue to the near edges, and using a level, carefully press the sheet of drywall against the wall.

Alternative methods for installing plasterboard slopes

It is not necessary to use a profile when designing slopes. You can secure drywall:

  • on polyurethane foam;
  • on glue.

Use metal frames convenient in cases where the surface under the slopes was severely damaged during the installation of windows. Fastening plasterboard panels to glue or foam is similar to fastening to a profile. In this case, the sheets are installed end-to-end or behind the frame, the seams are filled with sealant. After completing the work, the surface is primed, covered with putty and two layers of paint.

Pay attention!

The corners of the slopes can be covered with decorative corners.

Drywall slopes are not only profitable and easy to install. The surface of the material can be further decorated, which allows you to decorate the windows in the style of the entire room. The slopes will not contrast with the design of the room and spoil the impression of the interior.

How to make slopes with your own hands? Buy plastic good quality: if you save on material, you risk spending a lot more on subsequent repairs to the structure. note that plastic elements window area should have a thickness of 8 mm. The length of the material should be similar to the parameters of the opening. The depth of such a slope should not be greater than the width of the plastic panel.

Remember! Such slopes should be installed no earlier than three full days after installing the windows. This time will be enough for the polyurethane foam to completely harden.

How to install slopes

Now let's find out how to make plastic slopes. To begin, remove the shipping tape from the installed window profiles. The cracks from the street must be sealed using a cement solution.

Thanks to this surface treatment, you can make the external assembly seam denser, and also protect the mounting foam from direct exposure to ultraviolet radiation, which destroys its structure.

Attention! When we make plastic slopes, you can choose other methods protective finish. For example, putty or ready-made cement mixture. Coat the external window slopes with dye - and begin performing the remaining procedures indoors.

Let's proceed to the next stage of describing how to make slopes on the windows yourself. Take the starting strip and give it a shape that matches the window parameters.

Using self-tapping screws, drill the strip to the profile along the entire perimeter. It is this coating that will become the basis for the plastic panel.

What is needed in in this case? First of all, make the top panel: focusing on the parameters of the upper side of the opening, cut plastic covering– and secure it in the grooves of the starting strip. Next, repeat this work with two side panels.

Advice: During installation, it is more correct to use tools to level the material: a level or a plumb line.

As a result of this work, you should receive a frame with the following features:

  • with the formation of a gap for polyurethane foam with a thickness of more than 20 mm between basic basis and a plastic panel;
  • with the same angle of rotation of the sides of the slope on the left and right. To achieve this effect, use a square, which should be applied to the window profile at the top and bottom along the left and right sides;
  • if some parts of the panels and plastic extend too clearly beyond the plane of the window opening, use a construction knife to adjust the shape;
  • It is better to install trimmings in the areas and corners where panels join starting profile: this way you will cover up the uneven cuts.
  • The next stage of our master class is how to make slopes on plastic windows: now we are preparing edgings from an F-shaped profile. Start in the same way as working with plastic. this work from the top part. File the profile joints at an angle of 45 degrees to each other.

    It is very important to correctly seal the slopes of plastic windows with your own hands. All voids should be covered with special foam. But please note that you should not overdo it: when freezing, foam can burst the slopes. Therefore, in order to make slopes with your own hands without errors, foam the area at the base of the window and lay the foam as bridges between the plastic base and the old slope.

    Form the second foam layer according to the slope angle: in free space profiles are mounted in the shape of F, and they are fixed using adhesive tape.

    We continue finishing the slopes with plastic with our own hands. As a rule, after twenty minutes, when the foam hardens, the structure will become more durable and rigid. In the end, all you have to do is seal or silicone the cracks.

    To ensure proper foam adhesion, lightly wet surfaces before starting work..

    Important! Don't forget to mask the defects under the window sill and ebb, and also get rid of dust and debris at the end of the job.

    After installing new plastic windows, the question arises of how to install PVC window slopes without the involvement of specialists. Our article today will help you choose the material and carry out the work.

    What role do window slopes play?

    The installation of PVC windows has been completed, but you notice that something is missing, and the window itself looks sloppy and even rough? The reason is the lack of slopes, which must be installed. The main problem when installing new windows is that it will not be possible to carry out the installation without removing the old slopes and part of the wall, no matter what professionals carry out the work. So it turns out that after installation the window block looks like it was after a bombing. To create complete harmony and merge the windows with the interior of the apartment, you will have to restore the slopes.

    Today there are various ways for finishing the window opening: the use of plaster and paint (traditional) and the use of plastic slopes (modern).

    Undoubtedly, the first option will allow you to enjoy a beautiful appearance for a long time, but only if you spend restoration work. At the same time, the complexity of the work is at a high level. But the installation of PVC slopes can be carried out even by a construction novice. And it will take an order of magnitude less time to complete this work. If you decide that you can live without slopes, this will not only spoil the appearance, but may cause strong drafts to appear in the house, which will lead to heat loss.

    Why should you choose plastic slopes for PVC windows?

    To answer this question, it is worth studying everything possible materials, which can be used to create slopes. This will allow you to evaluate all their advantages and disadvantages and compare them with each other.

    Types of slopes:

    • Plastering. If we talk about plaster slopes, then they have more disadvantages than advantages. First of all, the plaster soon begins to crack and loses its brightness due to direct exposure sun rays, and when the building subsides, it may even move away from the walls. In addition, the disadvantages of slopes include the inconvenience associated with the time of work. Slopes are plastered in at least two or three layers, each of which must dry, which takes time. After this, the surface is primed and painted. The work may take up to several weeks. Also, such slopes do not provide for the creation of suitable thermal insulation, which will lead to condensation.
    • Slopes made of gypsum board. Such products are more durable than plastered slopes, and if they are insulated with mineral wool, they provide very high thermal insulation properties. But there are also disadvantages: gypsum board sheets are afraid of moisture, and therefore high level waterproofing is not about them. That is why such slopes are only suitable for installation in rooms with low humidity levels.
    • A modern solution is PVC slopes, which are quite easy to install yourself. This material has many advantages. First of all, this is quick installation, simplicity and ease of care, plastic does not fade in the sun. In addition, such slopes will serve you for at least 15 years. If you carefully select the slopes to match the shade of the window frame, the harmony between the products will be perfect. Using mineral wool, you will provide excellent heat and sound insulation.

    True, there are some disadvantages. For example, such slopes have a low level of resistance to mechanical damage, and therefore you should treat them carefully, using a regular damp cloth for cleaning. Also be careful when installing PVC panels for window slopes. As the famous saying goes, it is better to measure seven times and only then cut. If some mistake does occur, use regular silicone putty to seal the PVC.

    Do-it-yourself PVC slope installation

    Installation of plastic slopes according to all the rules will allow window openings look 100%, the windows will not be afraid of humidity, you will forget about possible cracks on the surface. But this is only possible if the installation work is carried out in compliance with all norms and regulations. This is what we will talk about.

    How to install PVC slopes with your own hands - step-by-step diagram

    Step 1: Prepare the surface

    You can begin installation literally a day after the installation of the window unit. Approaching the window, you will find large number polyurethane foam, which appears at the joints between the profiles and the wall. It must be trimmed, for which use a sharp stationery knife. After this, the surface of the slopes is cleaned of dust and dirt.

    Step 2: Installation of the guide profile

    First, find out the dimensions of the profiles along the outer edge using a measuring tape. Also be sure to measure the outside width of the profile and the distance from the top of the window to the sill. By the way, before carrying out work, it is best to either remove part of the frame or bend the film a little.

    As a guide, it is customary to use a U-shaped profile of the required width, which is cut into necessary elements. For this job it is better to use . After this, the profile is attached to the outer part of the window frame with screws, and the fasteners should go every 20 cm. We fasten the top and side profiles in the same way.

    Step 3: Installation of sheathing elements

    To create the sheathing, you need to use wooden slats with a cross-section of 2*4 cm. They are attached to the far corner of the slope on top and on the sides. To fix the slats, use dowels; the distance between the nails should be around 30 cm. It is important that the sheathing is perfectly flat, for which you can use a plane - using this tool, carefully trim the thickness of the slats. At the end of the work, check the levelness with a building level.
